Default old doors, old car, new project: fixing the horrible sounds.

so i love my car to death. its a 1990 Honda CRX Si. but lately, i have begun to hate the doors. clang, kling, clack. they make horrible sounds when i open and close them. i have pulled the door cards off, inspected, i have lubed them up, and have looked everything over. no resolution.

does ANYONE know how to make out doors like new? i mean, i know they are 15 years old, but hey, i want my car to work like new....and this is the one thing that i can not live with! its driving me crazy.

if you have any suggestions, id love to hear them.

thanks in advance.

check and make sure you have proper clearance between the fenders and the door. MIne have made loud sounds and i had to move the fenders forward slightly and adjust the door hinges.

my rear doors on my sedan did that when i bought it. just lubed em up. after a while they did it again, just lubed it up again - its now been 3 months - all good.

try getting the actual mechanism that swings the door open(it contracts and expands when you open/close the door) from another car at a yard?!?!?! maybe?

good luck

If it doesn't close easily there are two things you can do. You can adjust the bump stops (by turning them clockwise by hand) so that they do not stop the door before the lock, or you can pull off the fender, loosen the 6 hinge bolts, break the seal loose and lift the door up to where it is supposed to be, then retighten.

put some spray can lithium grease on the door striker. (the thing that stops the door from opening up all the way. they always dry up and start making awful noise when you open/close. if it don't work get a new one
