Help me wire up my horn, Momo wheel, NRG hub + Quick Release
Okay I searched, and this is what I found:
http://importnut.net/civicsteeringswap.htm
and
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=273474
Both of those articles do the same thing, however I'm still a little confused.
What I understand:
I understand that when grounded the horn sounds. I know about the shoe horn and how to to make it contact the rear of my nrg hub.
What I am confused on:
What I don't understand is what to do with the wire I soldered on to the "shoe horn". This is where both write ups take different approaches. The guy on Honda-Tech's write up I find pretty ghetto, so I chose to follow the guy at importnut's article.
Here is the pic for reference from import nut:

I think I found this, here is a picture of what I found on my car:

My question:
Can I take the 3rd wire from the left, the same as in importnut's picture, and connect it to the wire I soldered onto the shoe horn? Will this make my horn sound when I press the button?
Anyone else have a better idea?

JUST run that wire to a screw and there is already a spot for it. Run whatever conductive material you choose from the screw(where the wire is wrapped around the base) to the back of the hub. Worked for me.

So I should just cut open the yellow wire loom and then cut the wire, strip it and connect it to a wire that goes from the screw?

What you do is use one of the screw holes thats already there, which I'm sure your familiar with. You drill a hole in to the shoe horn and stick the screw in the shoe horn and then in to the part of the column where the screw originally came from. Now just take the hot horn wire and solder it to the end of the wire which is not touching the back of the NRG hub...
let me know if your still confused.
let me know if your still confused.
Let me know if this clears things up. Once you got this taken care of, the horn on your wheel will close and open the circuit...
I understand that part. What I am confused on is this.
You are saying hot horn wire. Is the hot horn wire the 3rd from the left, the only one in importnut's picture (the top one)? So the thing I am holding in my pic, I should cut open that wire loom, cut the same wire, strip it and connect it to my shoe horn. Correct?
Essentially what I'm asking is am I holding the right thing in the pic and if what Im thinking is right regarding that 3rd wire.

I used a wire tap instead of cutting into it just incase I wanted to go back to stock. Instead of soldiering I used a crimp with a hole in it and screwed it on.
I found out how to do it using a tutorial I found through the search engine on this site. I see the "Search" icon is now red.
EDIT: this is the one I used https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=273474 - turned out great now I need to figure out to wire them to my air horns
.
Refer to pictures 14 and 15.

The only thing I was saying to do is just to run a wire off that harness to that black screw holding down the shoe horn. Much easier with the pic.

So howcome in the honda-tech article you need to jam that wire into the turn signal plug? I just don't see the point of that.
Just simply cut this wire or tap into it and run it to that screw holding the shoe horn or you can solder it to the shoe horn, it'll work either way.
If you want to test the wire get a test light, ground the tester and poke at the wires, when you poke the right wire, the horn will sound...
hey just as a general rule of thumb anything wrapped in yellow wire looms are not the best things to be probing with anything other than a DMM (Digital Miltimeter) .. there is a good chance there are airbag wires in that harness which could do some harm if tested wrong.
I've got a quick question...I've got the NRG quick release and my only problem was the horn not working. Well, I cut the harness on the SRS spool. That shouldn't matter should it?...since I'm gonna wire the horn from under the dash to the shoe horn...right?
cool...I figured that would work. The shoe horn will make contact constantly with the hub yet still allowing it to turn perfectly fine right? If so...this sounds easy!

good luck man, wish me luck as well. I work at Honda so I'll get the hook up on what's probably only a couple dollar part...haha
ok i did this whole process today and cant find this plug.
the only yellow plug i found has 3 grey wires not 4 can some one help me also thanks.

That's because that's the wrong plug. You need wire number 6 on the SRS harness, wich is farthest to the left. I will explain it better tonight.

My guess is, if he's going with an aftermarket steering wheel, he's not going to have to worry about his air bag. What damage will probing anything do, all your doing is grounding a wire. If your worried about rules of thumb, make sure you wait about 30-45 mins. before playing with the srs harness, so you allow the residual power that could be there wear away. I've got the same setup as you, and I'm speaking from experience.

I finished mine tonight using the shoe horn (part # 35259-SH3-A02) and using the honda tech article to help me sort of...kinda did it on my own. Anyway, it was really easy, took maybe 15 minutes and works like a charm! I have a horn once again. Woo!
Only cost like $4 maybe for the shoe horn.

Good ****!!!
Or if you have an old flashlight, you can pull the horn out of it, and just drill a hole and put your screw through it...
whatever works!
