component speaker install for '96 accord ex
Hey everyone, I am preparing to replace my stock system in my '96 Accord EX sedan with some JL Audio XR-650CSI component speakers. These will be powered by my amp, so I plan on running 16 guage speaker wire to the doors. I have run into a bit of a snag in my preparation though. I just went and bought a Haynes repair manual for my car and I noticed it didn't have some of the info I was looking for.
It tells how to get the door panels off and all that, but mentions nothing about how to access the factory tweeter mounts which are way up on the dash. I have no idea how to get these covers off, let alone get up there with a screw driver in order to unscrew them and all that. I was wondering if the dash needed to be completely removed in order to do this, or do I just have to get the tweeter covers off and use a small '90 screw driver?
Basically, I just need some advice on how to remove the old tweeters and put new ones in, along with running new wire to the tweeters if at all possible. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I wouldn't put the tweeters up there if I were you, will sound too bright imo. Try door mounted at the least.
And good luck getting through a molex plug

Well, I don't really have the money at the moment to mount the tweeters on the door, but I know the soundstage would be better if I could. I think I will stick with the stock locations for now, so do you have any advice for me on how to get to them?
Also, what are you saying about a molex plug? Is that the plug that I need to drill through in order to run new wire into my doors? If so, I found a good thread on that so I think I can handle that portion of the install.
Anyone have any advice?

Well, I don't know...I just figured that having some panels custom built to go on my doors and then having it installed would cost a bunch of money...am I wrong to assume this?

Take a pic of your door panel, I don't have any pics handy.
In most cars you usually just mount it about 2 inches from the top and 5 inches from the upper corner of the door panel

Like right in the middle between the handle and the edge?
Also, I thought it was best to have the tweeter and speaker really close together. It seems like they'd still be pretty far apart if I was to mount it in front of the handle. Will the sound really be THAT much better if I mount it in the door instead of the stock tweeter location?
Sorry about all the questions, I just want to be sure it will be worth it before I go cutting holes in my car. I really appreciate the help.

Ideally the tweeter should be within 6". But we're not dealing with ideals in cars for the most part.
In my opinion the door mount option is better than the dash option
