Default Emissions is the devil... for some people

Well a customer came in this week saying his car could not pass emissions since 04. Thats right 2004, I was the guys last resort, if I failed the car was going up for sale.

We have a little policy here, basically if we can't get your car to pass, you don't pay for the labor, just the parts. Well here are the results

All the old readings

And the new readings, notice it does say fast pass on it

did you want to share some details on what was wrong and how you fixed it, or are you just posting to get props?

A few random things, I will not post them due to disclaimers ( I don't feel like going into it ) , I don't want your average joe reading it and then trying it.

Here I'll make it better
http://www.firstfives.org/faq/smog/smog_faq.html
http://www.visi.com/~rhayman/smog_faq.html

Many people don't know a thing about emissions

A little hint or tip, having the pvc plugged in is not good for emissions.

umm... yea bob... I know "tricks" too.

Did you pass this by earning it? Or did you cheat it? I think there is a major difference in the two when you are doing work for a customer.

Why do people post topics when they get new wheels, same thing here. I'm happy that the customer will have car finally.

How can you cheat ? The engine passed, there is no way around cheating the machine.

Yea, I hear you on that. Not trying to rip on you personally or anything. Just wondering if this guy needed a full out tuneup or needed a lil extra to push him across the threshhold. Ex: alcohol, creative temporary timing changes, etc.

And if anyone wants to know more what I'm talking about a simple search will pull up lots of results with stuff to make your car pass.

Indeed it will. Basically we do a simple routine maintance and go from there, this was going to be a base one to get an idea. He passed though, this thread was not to brag or anything like, it was more for a history search. I search for things like this all the time, older threads come in handy. I know for a fact someone will find this one day and IM me. Hell I already helped out two people so far since this thread.

I'll give you guys an emissions passing tip.

Crank the timing all the way back until the car will barely run. That's the only way I could get my two previous cars to pass. Even after a full tuneup, brand new cats, egr valves etc.

With the timing at stock settings, it was just still too hot.

Why don't you remind everyone that your car runs on gas not smelly water
