I'm guessing a quote would be for like $5,000 to fix that since it goes onto the rear fender which is hard to replace...so I'm gonna say not totalled unless he has like 250k miles on the car.

How much do you think you could get by parting the whole thing out and selling the shell seperately?

If you have a lot of time on your hands to work with it, I would try to keep it.

Hmm...I don't know....I think the qaurter panel could be salvagebale if you find someone who knows what they are doing.

Is anything bent behind the rear bumper?

That looks very similar to the damage that happened to my friends old car and they deemed it a total loss. = /

Unless the quarter panels can be salvaged.

<--Yea... that friend would be me right here.

dude-

looking at those pictures, hurts. doh. I miss my damn car.
Im gonna go cry now.\

Good luck to your cousin.

alright let me not be so EMO-
I got into a VERY similar accident to his. Same exact spot was hit straight on. Only mine looked a bit worse. Ill post pics later on. The only diff. I may see is that mine was all crashed on the floor... it came up into the trunk, and the quarter panels were crashed frontwards due to the impact. The trunk wasnt aligned, the same exact tailight was done. The bumper flew off from the impact. The shop did a preliminary estimate of about $7,600. That was based on new parts. Thats because no one had used parts. Thats the bad part about owning a prelude- parts are not that easy to find/common.
Check nada.com for the value of your car too. If the estimate of the repairs is I think 80-95% of the value, it will be considered a total loss.

EDIT*
You know, the more I look at the pictures... I realize... you may get lucky(that is of course if you want to keep the car).
Looking at your damages, and how they differ from mine... I was hit by a 3000gt, somewhat of a low car... so my main problem was the floor of the car. I was going to end up needed basically a whole rear clip. Your car on the other hand, since it was hit by a SUV- the trunk is what looks like suffered the most. So that may be the main thing, which probably wont be so bad.

My girls 99 ex looked almost identical to that after she got hit last year and they didnt total it. It had about 50k on it. I think they will fix it but I would make sure he takes it to someone who really knows what they are doing because its going to be pretty extensive.

I am pretty sure they can fix it. My 99 Prelude got rear ended by a moving truck. It collapsed both quarters, busted the back and both quarter windows, the backseat was pushed forward...it was crazy. Needless to say it was totalled.

Also you really need to take off the Rota center caps.
