Default crx help

yo i have a 88hf with a 89si motor and ive been having a few probs with it lately such as high idle around 1500-2000rpm's and also just the other day my car wouldnt start. so yea i still have the rough idle but the starting of the car i fixed. i had to replace the distributor cap and rotor and it seemed to fix the problem. than this morning when i was taking my lil bro to school i started my car up again and didnt give it time to warm up and just started driving. a few houses down the street my car starts bobbling and turns off. id restart the car and it would turn off once the idle would go to its usually idle speed. than i drove it back home as best as i can than let it warm up later in the day and it drove but still with the high idle. my homie said it coule either be that the gas lines are clogged? carb build up in the throttle body? i might need a new fuel filter? iono what it could be thats making my car shut off or could it just be that i didnt let my car warm up? help me out please thanks!!

buy a cheap car, end up with many problems

Yo dog your question is very vauge. I think you have a problem somewhere between the bumpers.

Can you and your hommie provide us with infomation such as
-Motor
-Vehicle type
-Mods
-Recent repairs (other than dist)

Did you and your hommie check the timing?

clean your iacv, and fitv with some brake cleaner, if you searched (search is your friend) for the idling problems, you'd find its notoriously that which caused the 2k idle, or the bouncing from 1.5k-2k

As for the bogging out, did you check the voltage on the battery, maybe you need new spark plugs

iacv stands for "idle air control valve"... it controlls your idle when the car is warmed up and is located on the backside of your intake manifold... the fitv stands for "fast idle thermal valve" and controls idle when the motor hasnt warmed up yet... the fitv is located just below the throttle body and has two hoses coming out of it... clean out your iacv as mentioned above and when you take apart the fitv make sure that the valve inside is screwed all the way to the back... i would also suggest swapping that battery out for an optima red top... good luck man

I had the same idle problem in my 1990 crx si. I think your engine code is d16a6 but i could be wrong. There are quite a few things that can cause your idle problem i'd start with the simple stuff first in this order
1.vacume leak
2.idle control screw (little screw on the throttle body that can vibrate out over time.
3.dirty throttle body- take of your intake go to autozone buy throttle body cleaner or brake cleaner and while the car is off spray it at the butterfly vales. I did it when the car was on but i was told that was a bad idea.
4. Iacv
5. fitv
6. throttle body positioning sensor- not sure how to check it really i've heard autozone can read the volts coming out of it and tell you if it is right (black triangleur thing on the back of throttle body
7.Radiator- check to see if it has air in it (doubt that's the cause)
8. Headgasket- if it smokes really bad it might cause it but unlikely

Your car dying is probably caused by your alternator, battery, or ground wires
maybe a combination of all of them. Mine never died from it but the idle would bounce around like crazy. I fixed one thing and something else would mess up
This is a common problem if you still cant figure it out do a search
I hope this helps

F*&K!!!! well today i went to get a different battery and when i pulled into the auto parts store parking lot the car shut off. i took off the radios face plate and started the car again and it worked so im assuming it was my battery. than i got the battery n was able to start my car again *without changing the new battery yet* and got home quick enough for it to not die on me. than i got home and we changed the battery and again it started up once we changed it and than we put the face plate back on and bumped the music and the car shut off once again n since than i was unable to start the car. so heres what im thinkin...

a)the alternator took a shiet
b)the iacv finally died (heard that from somone)

so iono ne one have inferences?

When it was running was the battery light on on your dash?

When the alternator craps out or the belt breaks that should come on. Also make sure your aternator belt isn't loose.

Did you wire up your stereo or did you have pros do it?

Check your plug wires to make sure they are snugged down to the dizzy and the plugs.

for the idle problem look here
http://www.ef-honda.com/ben/
Look under tech on the left of the page, then under engine click on bad idle trouble shooting.

nahh the battery light wasnt on at least i dont think i didnt check that because im so used to not looking at my dash lights cuz i know that my check engine light isnt working because the person who sold me the car i guess didnt connect it. thats whatthe guy at the smog shop said. because he couldnt read what needs to be fixed with the car because the check engine light wasnt working. and i had a pro work on da stereo and yea the plug wires and snug.

if it were the alternator wouldnt the car be able to turn over just with the power thats in the new battery? or would the alternator have to chage it up enough to turn it over and start it?

I can't say for sure I guess it's possible that your stereo combined with the car running drained the new battery enough to make it unable to start.

But I've driven 30 miles with my stereo on on just the battery with no problems so it seems unlikely that your new battery is already drained.

Does the car try to start? Can you hear the starter or is there no noise at all when you turn the key to start it?
