Default hatch vs. coupe weight question

i currently have a 92 vx hatch with a basic ls turbo setup in it. i wanted to get a cleaner shell and i have found a 93 ex coupe shell for a pretty good price. with the coupe being roughly 300lbs heavier how much do you think that will effect my times in the 1/4 and on the street? i heard it is a noticable diffrence but i dont have any first hand knowledge to confirm this. anyone have any ideas or opinions? i will do some weight reduction if necessary but i still wanna keep it pretty streetable for now so nothing too over the top will be done in that area. thanks guys

The coupe and the HB are going to weight almost the same...I dont think its 300lbs...thats too much...

It really depends on what you have on the car...I have seen HB's weigh in at 2000lbs and that is considerably lighter than a 2300lb couple. But my car weights in at 2275lbs and its a CX HB, without me! Blame it on the sway bars and such...its a street car. You can always lighten up a coupe (some may come with A/C, ps, sways, thicker carpets etc than a base model car would have).

But either way...300lbs makes a HUGE difference in Drag

A VX hatch (2100 lbs) compared to my EX coupe (2450 lbs) isn't going to be even close to the same. Let's break out the calculator for this one... 2450 lbs - 2100 lbs = 350 lbs. So saying there is a 300 lbs difference is very realistic.

Stay with the VX hatch, it will be a huge difference.

Although if you really want to trade I have coupe.

once you get more power the longger wheel base would be beneficial.

It is sort of a trade off. You willbe lighter in a hatch but you will get more traction in the coupe. The longer wheelbase helps with traction

I'm pretty sure the eg hatches and eg coupes have the same wheelbase.

if you compare both chassis's, the coupe will be about 50-100 heavier. this is without cutting the chassis.

there are a couple 99-00 Si's on here that weigh under 2000 pounds without the driver, and still no cutting of the chassis, and DX doors.

You should only be worried about weight if your setup cant make anymore hp, cause all you have to worry about is power to weight ratio.

power windows are way better than the roll up. <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by JdmEKCivic &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">You should only be worried about weight if your setup cant make anymore hp, </TD></TR></TABLE>

get your facts straight kid.
92CX and VX weigh 2080
93 EX coupe 2390
sounds damn close to 300lbs to me.

that did not include driver.

i can believe your car but its a full race car and the chassis has been cut, 1 piece front end, fiberglass doors, lexan etc. i just dont believe an SI could weigh less than 2000lbs. wait let me reiterate that. i believe it could if you had replaced all the suspension with aftermarket chromoly tubing.
my personal race car with no motor, front end cut off like yours, steering wheel, 1 seat, ebrake handle, no glass and rolling attire weighed in at 980.

You have a link with this info? I tried searching HT, google, and a few other car forums the other day, but couldn't find anything. Is 101.3 and 103.2 for all the 92-95 eg's or does it differ between some years?
