I got a 1990 Civic Hatch DX converted to OBD1 MPFI
Engine is a recently swaped d16z6
ECU is P28

I need to know why my car is shooting tons of gas, so much it comes out of my headers
and why my starter doesnt crank, it just pops (brought the starter in the store to get checked out, so i know it works)

And this happens when i turn the key

it used to be when i had bad ground...my dash lights were on and injectors were on and i didnt have the key in the car, i just put on the positive on my battery and without the key my car is on
but its fixed now that the grounding is better

 

are you using a resistor box? double check the fuel injector wiring.

nope no resistor box, you dont need one when going obd1

the diaphram is broken in the fuel pressure regulater and your building way too much gas into the cylinders and causing a hydraulic lock of the pistons

 

oh ok how do i fix it?

 

be VERY careful of fire and replace the regulater at the end of your fuel pressure rail............the fuel is supposed to circulate from the tank to the injecters and what isnt used flows back to the tank, your system is not allowing the unused fuel to go back into the tank and its building pressure high enough to force the fuel past the injecters.........BE VERY CAREFUL about fire

 

ok so get the fuel pressure regulator replaced? because there was a leak coming out a little while ago so i think there was fuel coming out of the fuel pressure regulator?

So it makes too much fuel, locks my cylinder so it wont crank? should i open my gas cap to let pressure out too?then after i replace the regulator should i take out the spark plugs(so theres no compression) manually crank the car so all the gas is out and then try starting it? and see if it cranks?

 

yeah, take the cap off and releive pressure . . . or you might get a shot of gas in your eye =P

 

ok so should i get that replaced?

 

dont forget to change the oil too, its diluted with fuel now

 

Ya I know, Im gunna change a lot of things.

well i got a mech to come over and check it out. he said there was too much fuel in the cylinders and that was perventing it from compressing, so we took out the spark plugs and cranked it and gas shot straight out of the 2nd cylinder from the right, and it keeps shooting out from just that one, hes only diagonising it not fixing it, and he said he needs to see the diagram how to wire the injectors or something cause since my cuzin did it, he thinks that the injector is on open the hole time, but i took out my fuel rail and saw it shot 1,3,2,4 or in that pattern. the car cranks now but it doesnt spark, i took out the MSD and used a Stock Dizzy and still no spark.
I think i need someone thats done a MPFI or a OBD0-OBD1 conversion to look at the wiring. Is there anyone that you know that can fix this? I'll give em 50 bucks plus gas if you fix it and get it started.

now on a serous note....................Gasoline will burn and explode.............what you are doing is dangerous, the fuel is supposed to be delivered to the fuel injection rail @ 36psi under non load conditions, the pressurized fuel sets in the fuel rail behind the injecters, when the injecter opens at the command of the ECU, the fuel is fed into the cylinder and burned, the fuel that isnt used is returned to the fuel tank, when the engine goes under load, vaccum quits at the fuel regulater @ the end of the fuel rail and fuel pressure increases to 40 psi
The first thing you must do is know what pressure you have, if you have restricted the return line back to the fuel tank ..........the fuel pump doesnt know that and it will continue to develop pressure over 60 psi..........so rent a fuel pressure guage and get the facts on pressure...draw a schematic of how you hooked up your fuel connections and send it to me, then I will help you with your wiring

well i found out just now my cousin that did the wiring, he did the same swap execpt his car is a crx SI so its MPFI obd0, he just did the obd1 conversion and he got the same problem

so its not my car its the wiring for sure
