Horrible Gas Mileage
ok, iam new here, so please dont be a jerk to me! i am the proud owner of a 99 Accord Ex v6. I get around, on average 26mpg. That is so horriable and i can not stand paying for gas that costs that much. So knowing that the civic has an awsome economical d-16. Would it be possiable to rip out my massive, slow v6, and in place install the d-16? that would be so sweet with a nice high redline and good fuel economy? Tell me if there is an easy way to do this.
Thanks a lot!

what is your mix of city and fwy driving?
when I drive 65/35 city/hwy I get about 23/24 and when I drive 35/65 city/hwy I get over 27. flat out hwy gets me 32 mpg at 75mph.
If I drive all city I get 21mpg

LOL D-16 in an accord im not trying to be an *** but that will slow you down and cause you to get worse MPg then paing some one to do that swap will cost alot.. its really a worst case senario you need the extra amount of Tq to move that car around any D serise or B serise will not be as good as the H motors so keep the v6 change the plugs if the old all the air filters exhuast... bolt ons usualy give you better gas milage and dont hit V-tec
Prior to entering panic mode, remember that colder weather will always negatively impact your fuel economy. My '02 (4-cy, manual trans) can get 36+MPG in hot weather at 65-70mph, with city/highway averages as high as 31 or 32 mpg if I REALLY keep my foot out of it. In the winter I average 27, 28 mpg city/highway and it's nearly impossible to break 30 or 31 on the highway trips. I don't know what part of CA you are in but it might be a consideration.
Also, 26mpg isn't too terrible for an automatic V6 car of that size. My last car, a comparably-sized Volvo, was good for MAYBE 24mpg in the winter, 27 or 28 in the summer.
Usual advice applies: efficiency requires efficient driving. Gentle acceleration, well-planned stops, and cruising at the speed limit are the keys.

You have a V6, theres not much you can say about fuel economy comparing a 4cyl and a 6 cyl. Honda makes very fuel efficient v6's compared to a lot of other companies.
In the winter, you're going to lose some mpg due to teh different fuel characteristics (more alcohol, for example).
If you want to try something, first make sure you have a clean air filter, up to date oil changes, make sure the spark plugs arent fouled, and add a fuel additive, i've heard a lot of good things about Lucasoil fuel additives.

According to Honda dealers in my area, V6 hardly ever requires valve adjustment under normal use..unless your engine is making valve trains noise, save your $$.
