Default Auto to Manual

Does anyone have the information on everything needed to do a successful and fully functional change over from automatic transmission to manual....how involved is it...someone is trying to charge me 1000 dollars to have it done...any help would be greatly appreaciated.

1000 seems reasonable, i heard that if you shop around and really shop the prices, you can get all parts for about 800, then 200 for labor? thats a good deal. if hes a friend and you can trust him, do it.

I have done the conversion myself and I spend about 2k in parts including 2 transmission, if the shop is asking for 1k to do the conversion for you,if it was me i would jump on it if all parts are included its a good price for everything.

Just to give ya a rough idea. It cost me total of $1800 to do my swap. About 900 was labor the rest for tranny and misc parts.

I had to mine asap since my auto died and it was my only car. If possible take your time finding some deals on parts and do the auto to menaul ecu conversion to save you some change.

If done right, worth every penny IMO.

I will keep looking for a deal because 1000 dollars just for labor (I currently have all the parts as to include the ecu)

I've searched on this, and I've found some posters saying you need to change axles, and some saying you don't. Here's what I don't understand:

Many things that involve axles talk about an intermediate shaft on the left hand side of the tranny. Every Honda parts catalogue I've seen shows it. Yet MY car (JDM AUTO 95 BB4) doesn't have one - it just has a long axle that goes straight into tha tranny.

Will I therefore need to change this axle if I convert to manual? Anyone know for sure? Do the autos have this long axle, and the manuals have the intermediate shaft? Honda parts catalogues seem to suggest ALL Preludes have it, yet mine doesn't!

/\ I know my F22a1 auto had the long *** axle. If you convert to manual, you most likely will need the intermediate shaft and shorter axle. The splines for auto/manual trannies must be different(im not 100% sureon that). Make sure their are threads on the back of the block for the intermediate shaft.
