6th gen accord key reprogram question
I have 2000 acoord 4 cyl..... The problem is, my steering column was replaced and i had to get a new key from the dealer, where they had to programm the new key for the new ignition.......I never made a duplicate, and just lost a key....My Q is as follows: I heard that you can reprogramm the key by doing some trick with brake pedal (i.e turning a key half way and pressing a brake pedal certain number of times.......blah blah blah) If thats tru, does anyone know how to do it right........i'd hate to have my car towed to a dealer and pay for a new key to get reprogrammed......help me out guys!!!!!! Otherwise dealer is the only other option
are you absolutely sure? I heard from more then a couple of people that there is the way to do it.........Just hope it wasn't no BS....otherwise dealer
you still need a honda key with chip inside.........but anyways, can i just bring in my ECU to the dealer, instead of towing the whole car, so they can programm the key that way?
here is the thread were couple of people mentioned about that method

You might try calling a locksmith as an alternative.
I remember receiving seeing a newsletter from a locksmith once who was saying that they could make duplicate keys for cars that had the immobilizer chip (like Honda). If you had two keys it was simple for them to make a copy, if you had just one key it could be done but would be much harder (more $$$). I can't remember if they could make one with no key, but it might be worth a shot, especially if they can come out to your house to do the work. It might be a special tool that this locksmith has, so you might need to call several before you find one with the tool.
And of course... wherever you get the keys made, get at least three made. When I checked with my local dealer a while back about duplicate keys, the cost was something like a flat 15 minutes of labor (assuming I had a key) no matter how many duplicate keys I wanted. Blanks were something like $5 or $7 each.
