Default Quick question for you Luders...

I'm going to sell my current beater to get a 97+ Prelude. I was looking into a 98+ GSR, but I just hate that they're such a huge theft target.

Is theft as big of a problem among the Prelude crowd? I toyed with the idea of getting another R, but there's no way I can drive that thing daily without developing an ulcer. Besides, the Prelude has more comfort features and will be more tolerable during my commutes and long trips, plus the extra torque is nice around town. One thing I did like about the Integra coupes is the big hatch that you can fit large items, such as a bike, skis, etc. But I think the Prelude trunk space is big enough for most errand runs.

So to sum up, I'd like to know if Preludes are more or equally stolen like the GSR/Type R's. Also, I'm guessing reliability will not be an issue, but anything that I should be aware of? I'm familiar enough with Integra's to know what to look for, but I'm not too keen on BB6's.

Anyway, I hope to pick up a Prelude soon. Thanks for any inputs.

Theft for a prelude isnt that high at all. Insurance is a LOT cheaper on a prelude than a GSR/ITR. As far as the reliability...Just make sure that the prelude that you pick up has had the scheduled maintainance done to it and you should be set! I hope we aquire ANOTHER prelude owner! Good Luck!

Stay away from the auto and sport shift models.

Thanks for the inputs. I've yet to own an auto, so don't worry about that. I'm looking for an Pearl White SH, 5-speed with something less than 100k miles. I've found a 2 in my area, but they're asking too much for them. If you guys know of one in your area for a good price, let me know. Thanks.

I'd say the motor is the most sought after part of the Prelude - although the B-series engines are hot items, the H22 engine is widely eyed as well. Thefts occur, but it won't be as bad as owning any modified Civic or Integra IMO. Of course this all depends on your location too.

It's not that bad here, but thefts do occur. I'll still be cautious. After owning an R, that becomes your second nature.

I just test drove a 99 Base this morning, just to get a feel for it. I liked the way it drove, and the shifter seems a lot better than the ones in the Integra's. The only complaint was the headroom. I'm 5' 11" and there was maybe 2-3 inches of room from the headliner to my head. If I run any HPDE or auto-x events, I don't know if my helmet would hit the roof. When I had my R, there was no problem with a helmet on. Any of you have the same problem?

BTW, they were asking $11,000 for it. 99 Base model. 5 speed, 55,000 miles, GREEN. Fair price?

I think that's a reasonable price, however, Eucalyptus Green is probably my least favorite, and i would venture to guess overall least desirable, color on 5th gens. If you're okay with the color, i think its a pretty fair price, maybe a little on the high side. I bought my 97 SH for 10.5k with 59k 2 years ago. I'd try to get him down to at least 10k, unless the car is absolutely MINT. Good luck!

I thought it over, and I don't think I could live with a green car (no offense to Cypress Green owners ). The nice thing about this dealership was, they were going to give me $17k for my S2k as a trade in. That also means that I didn't have to pay any sales tax. Oh, well, the search for a Pearl White begins.

BTW, did SH's only come in certain colors? I'm only seeing SH's in Pearl White.

And FYI, my Integra was faster than a Prelude.

preludes are harder to steal because of the chipped key/ignition.
