Default 235/60/15 vs. 225/50/15 for PW/S..

I've noticed a strong majority of Power Street competitors as well other high hp turbo cars are running 225's. Any particular reason? Most of the fast D/R guys such as Jim Hucks, Mat Keller, etc all run 225's. Is there not a distinct advantage running a wider and taller radial like the 235/60/15? Is it for the sake of gearing? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanx.

I think those guys run GSR trannies. I have a ITR tranny so this year I am goin to step up to the 235. also the 225's have a different tread pattern than 235

things that i know u have to cut fenders for 235s to fit, jim huck said he would not cut fender to fit them
not to mention your not aloud to cut fender for power street

hope this helps
run the biggest tire you have its that simple
i run the 225 s as well but my car was lowered so it would never had fit the 235
now i raised it up but i still dont want to worry bout it rubbin when turning and such

good luck to all
see ya at the races

I have talked to some techs and I am cutting my fenders but have flares to put in there place. They said I would have no problems. Just FYI

you shouldn't have to cut your fenders for the 235's unless your car is dumped...atleast i thought so

i have a 255 on the front of my car and didn't have to cut the fenders...but i also raised the car up 3in.

mine is stock ride height and its a 4th gen. They dont have **** for clearence. My 225's stick out a good bit at 0 camber so I needed to flare or else it will fall under not being state legal because they will stick out too far. I dunno my car is not to user friendly hahaha o well I think it will look better too. Plus they are J's racing ... thats JDM as hell hahahahahaha

1.74 is phenomenol, I'll probaly end up with the 225's for easy clearance. We had a set of 235's on a 500whp Integra and blew the tires off in 1st and 2nd. We'll try them again on the track. I really want to get more seasoned on radials.

Did you guys run A multi stage boost controller with the integra or were you running full boost the entire time?

the 225's hooked well on my car but I will run out of gear in 4th without a doubt this year so I have to step up to 235's. I measured stock height to on a ITR you need about another 1.3" for the tires to clear

we have a set of the 235's on our car and they seem to work fine, but i also got a set of the 225's to try out. so we will see which size works best with the new power we found during the off season. good luck to every one that will be running power street this and i hope see and meet you all at some of the events this.

First and second, it was on 15psi and 3rd had 30psi. 235/60/15 M/T radials. I'll try different methods before I totally abandon the idea.

the best part about my 1.74 60ft, was it was against jim huck, first time i had ever raced in atco, first time in power street class, first time on my brand new tires, so when jim came over to introduce himself it was quite funny, he couldnt believe it either

was a funny way to meet

No no no, The best part was that you missed 2nd gear and probably blew an 11.50 run w/ a car that only had a lil' over 300whp .

With practice and a properly setup chassis(like Dan's cutting 1.7's on them) I think the 225's can take a few people this year into the mid 10's. I think running out of RPM on the big end will be a factor though and would be the only reason for some to make the switch to the 235's.

i have ran both and have to say that the 225 is a much better tire, but not tall enough.i went about the same 60' with both, but the 225 seemed to hold better under power.only problem was,i had to turn it 9500rpm and still hit the rev limiter right before the finish

I would try the quad stage and a little less boost in first gear, I would deffinetly stay with those 235's

I think someone is on to something here.

I did have a problem running out of rpm at the beginning of the year but we just keep bumping that up to get through the traps in 4th. Not sure how much the LS will take but if the car keeps getting faster I guess we will find out. lol It goes through the traps at around 8800.

I wish I had a LS tranny. trapping at 118mph I was hitting the limiter at 8700 with my ITR tranny last year on the 225's

I must have some problems with my driving cause I can't get anywhere close to any of your times.

I have a AVCR on order as my greddy kept frokin out on me maybe some gear dependent boost will help.

My best on BFG 225/50/15 is 12.8@123 @20psi all 4 gears

ITR Tranny winding out red line at the trap.

I was thinking about getting the 235/60/15 but not so sure after reading the posts.

Just some worthless .2 cents.

nice 60ft. I've personaly ran a 1.78 60ft w/ the 215/60-14's. It was my only pass before the end of the season. I ran out of gear at the 1000ft, so my time would have been really decent. Pulled a 11.50 @ 125.

See you guys around, hopefully at some VA events

BTW, w/ coilovers in the front, the 235/60-15's work fine w/o cutting. But on a 88-91 style i dunno how it would fit. Mine is a 92-95.
