What is a cheap/easy VTEC swap into CRX Si
Hey all well time to ask the experts again. Well i have a 89 CRX Si and I love the power it produces with minor bolt ons I would like a SOHC Vtec motor. Are they cheaper the a DOHC Vtec motor??? Well can you take like ets say a ZC engine and put VTEC on it?? I would like to know what are some engine swaps that are fairly plug and play and have VTEC. Also what RPM does VTEC engage at and can you change that RPM with a VTEC controller. THX again guys
PS: I want to go all motor

Either a mini-me swap or the full sohc Vtec swap would be the cheapest and easiest way to get Vtec in an 88-91 civic. The dohc zc will not accept a Vtec head without major work.
What is mini-me???? And does the SOHC VTEC require just the head or hole engine. presently i have a d16A6 What cars can these be found off of?
dont know if you got the email go here http://crx.honda-perf.org/articles/z6swap/z6swap.html
So i guess once i find a 93ish civic with SOHC VTEC at a yard i can get all my parts off it. What about if your car isnt an Si. My buddy has a DX and we were going to do a MPFI swap this week. You still need to do that swap regardless if your going to go VTEC or not right>>>???? THX

Yep you always have to do the mpfi swap when using a motor other than one that runs dpfi. And the only one that I know that does are the 88-91 civic/crx dx and some of the crx hf's.
Can you buy a SOHC VTEC head at a online wrecker or something..? What is stock Compression ratios for these on CRX bottoms? Would it be worth it to shave head down a bit???
THX so mucha again

Where is jdmb18hatch when you need him???
He could probably tell you more about the compression ratios since he knows a lot about the sohc swaps and tech stuff.

go for the 96-00 y8 vtec head.on this year head the distrib bolts up perfect.on the 92-95 it needs some work done to the distrib since its only held on by to bolts insted of three.you can use the dx intake, but go with the si or mpfi.dx to si you need si ecu- si distrib-si intake throttle body fuel rail in ijectors-si resistor box or one from the integra-si throttle cable, and go to honda hybrid site for the wire diagram.also it helps to get a copy of a 1.5 and 1.6 diagram from a honda dealer to go with the other honda hybrid diagram.yes vtec or not change from dx to mpfi.
The 92-95 D16Z6 head on a CRX block will yeild about 10.5:1 compression ratio and the 96-00 D16Y8 head on a CRX block will yield about 11:1 comp. ratio. Let me know if have any questions. I am running a mini-me in my car right now.
if you decide to go with SOHC VTEC, check this for some help http://www.angelfire.com/ca/DrOhm/hybrid.html
WIth HASPORT better mounts (bolt in process now), I'd go for B16. Do it right the first time.
