Default lost power

i was helping my friend put in a new head unit for his subura. when i pulled out the stock radio, i saw that the wires were kinda damaged from the previous owner. i took the radio out and started to wire up the wiring harness from the new radio to the old one, but didn't finish becuase i had something come up. so i decided to put his old radio back in and finish up the next day. after i put the old radio back in, the radio stopped working and the lights inside the car stopped working as well. could there be a problem with a blown fuse or something a little more serious? would the damaged wires that i was talking about earlier be further more damaged cuase the old radio to stop working?
