Default Gm/chrystler trans fluid in a Honda?? ? ?

So everyone recomends the Penzoil synchromesh for Honda trans. So I when to buy some today at Autozone and read that it was for Gm or chrystler ONLY, now why in the hell would anyone reccomend this for Honda trans? I didn't buy it due to being sketchy about it saying for Gm/Chrystler only.
I know honda fluid is probably the best, but Im doing my motor swap tommarow (Sunday) and honda will NOT be open, So ill have to settle for Autozone stuff, And i need to know what to buy from there.

My buddy says to just pick up 10w-30 Vavoline oil and put in there.

What ya think?

I've never used anything other than honda fluid in my tranny. The way I see it, honda engineers knew what they were doing......unless you're running something aftermarket trannnywise (lsd etc.) that says to use something else, I'd still stick to honda fluid. As for hte 10W30 thing, DO NOT put regular oil in your tranny. Yes, it is possible to do this and yes, it will work......for a while. You can put 10W30 in but only if you're stuck and it's a last resort.....and even then, it is suggested by Honda that you replace the fluid as soon as possible.

I used the search button and so should you, lots of good info. From what i can tell its good if you get the friction modified, but it seems to decrease syncro life. So ppl suggested that the best thing to do is a mix between the GM/Pennzoil Snycromesh and Honda MTF. But search you might find an answer you really like.

There's many many threads on Syncromesh that will convince you to go down to the GM dealership and get some of it. My trans uses it and I couldn't be happier

To the OP, use some castrol motor oil for now, untill the dealership opens and you will be fine. Yes you can run motor oil in the tranny, basically the same thing as Honda MTF, but MTF has a few more addictives. My freind runs motor oil in his SI and hasnt had any problems for a long time.

Use honda MTF if the tranny was already in okay condition before.

If it had a slight grind you could "band aid" that with some GM synchromesh friction modified. Search on here for the part number cause if you go to the GM dealership parts depeartment they will just give you regular tranny fluid. It usually stops grinds in transmissions and makes it smoother driving.

I've been using Amsoil Synchromesh for about 8 months now. No more grinds on quick shifts and the thing runs great.

I know you need something quick, but if you decided to drain and fill in a few months... to amsoil
