Default orange lightbulbs that look clear when off

I know there's probably at least a few threads about this but I don't know what words to search for (and I'm posting in here because the appearance forum won't let me post in there) but anyway...

Does anyone know what those lightbulbs are called or where to get them that shine orange/amber when on but look white/silvery when off, for clear sidemarkers and turn signals? TIA

Any recommended brands too?

I got a set off of ebay......they are called chrome dipped or something like that (they look silverish/chrome when off). I'll see if I can find some additional info. on the who I got them from. Good luck.

Thanks for the info

I'm looking for some of those for clear sidemarkers, thinking about getting some but I don't want the orange bulb messing up the look during day

Sylvania Silverstar makes an 1156/1157 etc bulb that has a bluish/clearish tint when off and can either light up amber or clear depending on the bulb

im pretty shure they make them in all sizes

pnthr30 did you notice that the light output was less than a regular clear or amber bulb?

also ive seen SilverStar Amber bulbs lately at Autozone, they look amber but also have the normal blue/purple/green tint like the SilverStart headlights, might not look orange in the day time might have a slight blue tint to it

I want it to look completely invisible at day, no color at all... no blue/orange/anything

Try to find amber LEDs. They CAN be completely colorless when they are not illuminated.

i got some a long time ago at kragen, they look purpleish/clearish blue if that makes any sense but they light up orange, personally i didnt like them, i had them as turn signals on my gsr, all amber corners look the best IMO.

No, I didn't notice any change in output.

Basically, I was looking for the same thing you are looking for.......I wanted clear corners to be "clear" during the day - colored bulbs just didn't suite my needs/desires.

I went with something along these lines (don't remember which one exactly).......
http://search.ebay.com/search/...ory0=

I would suggest trying to buy both the 1157 and the 194 bulbs from the same person/manufacturer, however........otherwise you are going to have two slightly different oranges (or ambers, or yellow, or whatever color you go with).

Like I said, I don't recall exactly which ones I got, but you couldn't notice them during the day, and they were fine at night. Good luck!

Thanks for the help The thing is that I think my car already has the chrome/amber 194 bulbs on it, I just need the 1157 (my car doesn't run and I can't turn the bulbs on to check) but anyway the important thing is I found out where to get them if I do need some
