Default alternator

Ive noticed a squeaking noise coming from my alternator on my b16. Ive checked the tension on the belt and it isnt loose. Ive noticed it does it as soon as i put on my head lights and quits when i start to drive. Also on when I put on my brights at idle and rev the car it gets even louder, Or when im driving at night when I slow down...It almost sounds like its coming from the pulley possible bearing. any ideas

Maybe the alternator is going?

I was thinking maybe the belt is too tight but then it would be making noise all the time.

that has crossed my mind but wouldnt a alternator that is going out cause drain on the battery since it can no longer recharge the battery? But the car starts up fine and has no symptoms of a drained battery.....

sometimes the bearing goes out
and it keeps the alternator going back and forth

maybe you have a bent pulley
or it out of line

test it. turn on your car and take the neg. batter plug off and if it died its your alternator.

i'd loosen and recheck the belt, and when it is off make sure that you can spin teh alt. with you hand and that it feels right. if the alt seems normal and the belt looks ok, put it back together and go from there. if everything is working ok, belt dressing might simply get rid of the squeak.

you cant always tell when a belt is glazed or stretched..the way i do it is, get silicon spray (clear stuff) on the underside of the belt as its spinning if the noise goes away change the belt, if not its the pulley.. but change the belt anyway its like 10 bucks from honda

i'd recommend using belt dressing instead, since you really don't want to lube things up like that.
