ported out head
one of my freinds has a ls integra and has sent it out to get port and polish and a 5 angle valve job. he alaso is getting his deck shaved down as far as possible. he ordered race head gaskets to hold w/e extra compresion he has. ok i have a few questions he wanted me to ask.
1. what cam would work the best on this setup ?
2. how much compresion will he end up with ?
3. what ingition box should he be using ?
4. would swapping the pistons to b16 pistons make a difference?
.
thanks in advance

get some crower 403s, stock ignition should be fine, and the b16 pistons will raise the compression so you wouldnt have to mill the head or deck the block. check out c-speedracing .com they can calculate compression
Here is a great build courtesy of a member here named Hybrid with a nice B18B that gave him 170 whp.

yea well he already sent the head to get milled down and its not going to b a mild port and polish. the guy who is porting it out gets the blueprints for the head and takes as much as he can out. he usually does v8 heads but u kno how it goes a freinds freind blah blah... yea so with the head milled down as far as possible will he need the new pistons or no.

to be honest your friend is an idiot.
1. hes sending his head to a guy that ports V8s. unless hes ported a shitload of honda heads what works on a V8 doesnt necessarily work on hondas.
2. for the price of getting his head ported he could buy a VTEC head for about the same or less and still have a good flowing head, better cams and a stock idle.
3. your friend has alot to learn. before diving into a all out all motor LS read HT vigorously for a few weeks then come back and ask questions later. theres tons of good info that he can read for himself.

i understand instead of doen something with my d15 i decided to swap it with a b16 and now that **** rolls. but he is a muscle car guy so hes like against the while vtec thing. i really dont get him sometimes. and he wont turbo it becouse thats how he is. i guesss hes takeing his own route who knos where itl take him.
well that just goes to show how really ignorant he is. VTEC is like having a big cam in a V8. you get the gas milage of a 4cyl and still have the kickass top end like a big cammed V8 but with a smooth idle. like i said, he has alot to learn. i havent seen any flow #s on an LS head but im sure they suck. the ports are smaller, valves are smaller etc etc etc. a stock B16 head flows around 240-250CFM on the intake side STOCK. fkned would be able to tell you what it flows on the exhaust side and probably knows what a stock LS head flows too. the power is in the head and compression.
why port a LS head when for 500 complete you can bolt on 20-30more HP. its a no brainer.

idunno if i were him id prolly do a turbo setup with me money he is spending but this is his route so i guess ill post up resaults. any other ideas to raise compretion besides milled head and thin head gasket and the b16 pistons

Your points about headwork being done by someone with Honda experience is valid. But the rest of the babble doesn't belong here, it has been hashed over a million times. This thread isn't a non-vtec vs vtec discussion, it is a discussion about building a non-vtec engine, what an idiot! Just using your terms, not mine.

whatever quit your whining. every subject posted daily on HT has been hashed over at one point or another. this time its some guy that wants to put a fortune into a build that would cost half that with a little research. go ahead call me names its not like i care what some guy in a 15 second integra from FL says.
With almost 5,000 posts, you would think that you could stay on topic. But seeing your location clues me into the state of your mental capacity. I retract my earlier post, because I would never want to pick on the mentally handicapped. Good day.
