My understanding is that horsepower must be increased for torque to raise as well (without increasing displacement). Just the nature of combustion engines. I suggest finding a cam with either good low end or midrange power.

A little more information would be helpful. What cams are you running now? Are you using stock B20 pistons or have the valve reliefs been opened up to accept something bigger than a stock GSR cam? Which VTEC head are you using?
Jeez! Damn Noobs !
Just go out and buy an ITR.

Chad, if you want more torque, you are going to have to accept that you will make horsepower too. You may want to look into a set of Crower 403 or 404 cams. They go for about $350 a set new. 403's are better for daily driving, but you have a 2.0L and the B20's(stock) respond well to 404's.

From my experience, I never noticed a major difference when using 403's over stock, but from 403's to 404's was a huge difference. I will try and find the dynosheet, but a guy awhile back on http://www.nonvtec.com had only a stock B20 with a few bolt-ons, and the 404's cams and made like 157whp(not sure on the torque though) with stock compression. Do a search on StyleTeg

Also, I do know that Crane makes a few cams for the B20, and one of them just optimizes the lower mid range and has a great torque gain. I will have to search to find it though.

Here is the link to the Setup and Dyno thread on Nonvtec.com. StyleTeg's B20 setup is listed at the top of the page, but the pics of the dyno graphes are gone(its an old post). Thumb though to find other similiar setups.

chad, i'm in the same boat as you. i was honestly thinking about installing 1/2 of a 93 Supra TT setup on my motor. ust a single T26 @ like 5psi. it's just slightly smaller than a T25. full boost @ about 2000rpm. nothing too crazy. just a meaty torque curve.

but if you don't want to go turbo, then raise your compression. on my b20b, i have the head shaved .026" and i pulled the middle layer out of my headgasket. it's sitting at about 9.45:1 compression right now.

I <3 my LS1.

Myself I'd go with what was already mentioned about upping the comp ratio.

suprised chad hasnt replyed with more info. anyway if your running stock pistons get some 11ish:1 pistons. that will give you a smooth 10 lb/ft of TQ more accross the board.

The B20 is his daily driver car. He already has a K-powered race car. So, this would mean an H22 would be a waste of money.

if you don't have a vtec head, use one. get that cheap Rage/hytech header if you don't have anything comparable or better. shave head / deck block to raise compression, or use those new RS cast pistons for use in the stock bores. if you don't mind spending the $, have RLZ, Endyn, Dave Localio, etc. rework yours (unless yours is done already).

chad, check out latrry's civic buildup ... it'll give some good ideas, i.e. he ported his exh side of the head to flow alot then subsidize an ITR exh cam with a hugh intake cam. the goal was to make the motor a tq monster, so far it seems to be working from looking at his engine dyno sheet.

use a higher lift cam for more tq, and more duration for a broader tq curve, a tri-y header pairing the pulses that are 360 degrees in succession, wider plug gap, cool the intake charge with bypassed coolant lines, hondata intake mani gasket, 3" exhaust,
bigger throttle body with small plenum, more intake length, milled head.

ohkay....so the b20 has:

toda header
itr throttle body
obd 1 LS intake manifold

the covetted 38 mm valve head
j's racing whale tale *****
obd 1 ls ecu

i have 5 vtec heads sitting around
i don't want to just move the powerband up....

i have a built 220 hp b20vtec just sitting right now....i don't want the hassle of the b20vtec.

i want complete and utter reliability...don't wanna have to keep checking everything all the time.

a guy wants to trade a trubo kit for some cams and install. a small trubo....quick spool...full power by 2500-3000 rpms....220 to the wheels....yeah that would work!!!

but right now funds are limited!

Want to sell that Toda header to me when I get back to VA? I drive through Greensboro on my way to Norfuck. If you arent interested, at least let me test it on my setup so I can see if I want one.

With your mods, I say just get a set of 404's, tune it with Crome and be done with it for daily driver status. To raise compression, mill the head. You already have a 2-layer headgasket from the factory since your B20 has the P8R head.

A guy here on H-T(he is located in VA) sells Crower 62404-2 cams for $350 a set new.

You can get the valvesprings from inlinefour.com for $185

I say the turbo route isnt a bad idea either.

Hassle of b20vtec ?
If your b20vtec is built properly there shouldnt be much of a reliability issue unless you plan on road racing to & from work every day.
