Default h23 w h22a crank and rods

I have an h23A/h22a frankenstein that has made great power for me and lasted for several years despite the fact that the bottom end had over 200k on it. But alas all good things must come to an end. Finally lost the bottom end due to ring failure. I do however see it as a way to take a step forward. My question is wheather or not it is possible due to the fact that other than the size of the bore the two seem to be numericaly the same in regards to the size and legnth of the crank, pins, etc. Is it possible to set up the h23a1 block with a 22a vtec's crank and rods but with pistons sized for the 23 to take advantage of the large bore 2.3 AND long stroke of the 2.2?

While it will fit, it is not a good idea.

IIRC, the H23's head as bigger combustion chambers and your compression ratio will be really low.

it soudns as if the engine built was an h23 bottom end with h22 head.

approxiamte compression is around 11.25:1 with that setup

changing to the h22 crank and rods (pistons are same bore) would drop compression to around 9.9-10.5:1, unless you get some higher domes pistons

You will want to use H22 pistons with the H22 crank/rods to keep some compression. It will be a little down on displacement, but it should work fine. You will basically have a regular H22 that uses a H23 block.

you got alot of your stuff mixed up, the h22 and h23 have the same bore, the h23 has the larger stroke. if you put the h22 crank rods and pistons in the h23 then you will have a destroked h23. should be ok though, everything will fit.

h22 head has a larger compression chamber (53.8 ccs) then the h23 (50ccs)so the compression ratio goes down when you do an h22 head/h23 bottom compared to an h23/h23. its gotta be less then 9.8

And yes bores are both the same at 87mm

the stroke on the h23 is 95mm and h22 is 90.7mm

and yes if you put h22 crank and rods in an h23 you will basically have an h22 with 9.8 cr instead of 10. in a h23 block

how is everyone missing the fact that he has said he already has an h22 head on his h23?

the posters confusion seems to me to be about the bore vs stroke, h22 and h23 have the same bore, the h23 has longer stroke.

all of my information pertains to the fact that he has an h22 head on an h23 bottom end.

Sorry guys, looking back on the info I found I realized it was late I was tired and I mixed the numbers up. I appreciate you setting me straight. Found a rebuilt bottom end bored over w/some good pistons, figure I'll get that drop it in and then wait till I blow somthing else up. Thanks again!

so this would work even if you had an h23 head? with h22crank/rods, h23 head and block, would you be able to handle revs to 7000 without worring about the bottem end? I really want to keep the h23 rods... put arp rod bolts in and put jdm h22 pistons on the stock rods. But i heard that the h22 pistons will come out of the block a wee bit.
