Default '01 S2000 gear ratio switch - Who can do it?

I heard switching gear ratios in the '01 s2000 yields great results. Who can do this and how much does it cost? Specifically, what results can I expect?

I am interested to know what RPM you guys with the 4.57 are holding on the highway...60-80 mph...

I rarely use 5th gear under normal circumstances. 6th gear rpm at 70mph is about
3,000 rpm. I'm more interested in quicker acceleration than higher speed. Is it worth the switch?

yes it is worth the switch...

I have the 4.77 final drive. It has improved acceleration in every gear. My top speed has been reduced from 172 to 143. My quarter mile time is 13.3 with a 1.96 60 foot. Only mods are gearing and aem v2 intake.

If I were to buy another S2000, it would be my first mod asap.

Worth it if you track it. Guys who do track their cars with a new FD can't say enough good things. I think it's a little senseless to be doing 4800rpms cruising at 75mph.

Where did you get the merchandise(gears)? I have the V2 as well and I want to pull 13's. What's this about 4800rpm at 75?

you can pull 13's stock if you know how to launch and drive. even with gears, you will not hit 13's unless you can drive

Nishant, how are your highway R.P.Ms with the 4.77?
I was told that it is really like driving on the highway in 5th gear with the stock gear. So I guess at 80 you are at 5K or so? Do you think it is too much for a daily driver?

Just got my 4.56-Rs in a couple of days ago. They do make a loud whine from 50-70 but my exhuast does mask it. Other than that, With the speedo correction i cruise at 75mph @4500. 80mph @ 5000. 1st - 3rd are amazing. it feels so much better. I can't wait to hit up the track with the new gears.

i put the 4.57's in my 01' a while ago, acceleration is awesome, second gear feels like its first gear.

the car pulls very strong but i have never taken it to the track so i don't know what kind of times i can pull in the quarter, def. worth every dollar, and the yellow box is something i strongly recommend otherwise your speedo will be off.

disadvantages, it has the infamous gear whine but i've learned to live with it, doesn't really bother me that much anyway.

oh and my gas mileage has also gone down, gotta sacrifice that with the new gears.

in 6th at 80mph, I am at 5100 rpm's. I have the yellow jacket and have adjusted it correctly with the help of a state trooper. My daily commute consisted of 50% highway and 50% city. I have no complaints. Vtec engagement is at roughly 94-95mph in 6th. One big difference on the highway with the 4.77 is never needing to downshift to pass. There is more than enough power to pass.

Just for examples sakes:

I raced an ITR owner from 70ish to 125-130. The ITR owner downshifted to 3rd while I stayed in 6th. Initially the R took off on me but at most 1-1/5 car lengths. At 100mph, I was dead even with the R and then proceeded to pull and pulled away fairly quickly. Both of us were amazed at my S's top end. AT the time, my only speed mods were intake and FD while the R had a full IHE with test pipe.

4.56 or 4.57 would be the most practical choice, for lower rpms in highway cruising then right?
