d15 burning coolant, need help
so i just bought a crx, the guy thought the rings were going as it smoked a little. i bought it planning on replacing the engine anyways as soon as i got a little money, but i thought i would try to get this thing running. anyways we put some more coolant in as it was running really low. start her up and DAMN. yea its coolant not oil. so i replaced the head gasket. bolt everything up and start her up. still smokes. what could this be? i didn't check the block for cracks or the head, so it could be that. i also have not changed the oil yet. i wanted to see if it fixed the problem before i went and contaminated some more oil. so could the water thats in with the oil be smoking. when i check the dip i see no water on that, so im not sure how much water is in the pan. could there be a ton of water in the cat? exhaust? etc... any ideas would be awesome. thanks

If you just replaced the head gasket,
It will take a while for the coolant that is in
the exhaust to burn out as it was previously contaminated..
It will usually take at least 30-45 minutes of driving
at freeway speeds for the smoke to diminish.
Just watch it for signs of overheating and oil or water consumption;
As long as those stay constant,it is probably OK..

i took the head off in reverse order from install.
update: i just got done with a approx 30-45min drive, 25 or so of highway driving. it is still smoking a little when i pulled it in, but far less than before. i let it sit for 5 min(off) then i took off the rad cap(with a rag); good pressure, nice and hot so its circulating well, and the best part FULL. its as close to exactly where i filled it to last that it could be. so i really don't think its eating coolant anymore.
two things;
1) it is currently 15 degrees F outside, so everyones car looks like it smokes.
2) when i bought the car we filled her up with water and ran it. lets just say the muffler couldn't have been more full. it was squirting out the muffler like a squirtgun. so i think there is still some built up water there, as well as the cat maybe.
im gonna take it to school tomorrow and run a compression test. and if need be a leakdown test. let me know what you think so far. tnx
