Suction Cup Camera Mount leagle for HPDE days?
I'm starting this month to do HPDE days with the local Alfa Club.
I have the camera mount pictured below.
I was just wondering if you think it would pass tech mounted inside the car or mounted outside the car?

Thanks
~Eric

I have one of those... I've never used it in a competition, but have used it on my motorcycle, etc. Never had a problem with it. It holds like 150 lbs or something rediculous. I would think that as long as you have a safety strap, and it is on a clean surface and you re-pump it every so often you probably can use it.

Here is a link to the spec's of the mount...
My Video Camera is not even one pound so weight is not a big issue.

Every club will have different rules regarding this sort of thing, your best bet will be to contact someone in charge of the DE days for the club you plan to run with and ask them, or take it with you and ask at registration.
Maybe.
Safety strap will be key tho so if it loses suction it doesn't fly around inside/outside of the car.
Ask the tech at the HPDE you're doing if it's approved or not by them.

I have the exact same mount and have run with it extensively. At HPDE I just strapped it down with a few zip ties and the Safety Steward was happy and said ok.
On more lax non-NASA track days I have run the mount outside the car with no issues. They are really strong, I even survived an off-track excursion without bothering the mount at all.

I would do the "outside the car" mount unless it was something like the sticky pod with multiple suction cups. I want to be DAMN sure it isn't going anywhere...
I must say the cup is pretty damn strong, the camera mount itself is a Manfrotto and if your into photography you've likely heard of Manfrotto. They make some top quality tripods.
