K20 Kaboom
First of all the guy who's car it is, is far from retarded. Same with the tuner, Sean at Church Automotive.
The motor was a completely stock A2 running a JR charger at 11 psi w/ a 100 shot of nitrous. The motor would have been fine but the nitrous was set to come on way to early as per the customer's request.
And Jim is not retarded he has a sleeved and fully built K24 that will be put in that motor's place.
He was just testing the limits of the A2 in the name of the sport and interested people like you and I.

If I was a tuner and someone requested to do a stupid thing like that...i would tell them to find another tuner...that's just stupid...take the motor out and sell it.

I've seen it happen, a wastegate failed to open and boom. Anyways, I want to hear the story behind this dyno. Details

11 Psi on blower and 100 shot of nitrous. Car would have been fine but owner wanted the nitrous to come on too early.

yeah everyone can say what they want but the owner and tuner knew the limits, the owner just decided to strech them out.

ME, Shawn wanted to increast NOS engagement to 6000rpm, this would lower the TQ but keep the peak HP, I was all worried about launching at the track so I asked him to keep it at 4000, this resulted in an INSTANT torque spike from 180 ft/lbs @ 4K, to 343.4 @ 4400, this produced cylinder pressure in excess of what the pistons could stand, cylinder #4 let go, the piston shattered, the rod snapped, bits-o-motor went through the oil pan and Jim got a free dyno day.
Regrets?
Yes.
1. Listen to your tuner, all that juice at such a low RPM was too much for a stock block, I was advised and chose to take a risk.
2. Don't be lazy, I have at home all the components to implement a 2 stage shot, but I was lazy and didn't install the 2nd stage. A 2 stage shot with 75 @ 4K rpm and an extra 25 at 6K would have probably been fine. That would have given me a good launch and a little extra for the long trip down the track, stupid me.
Waste of a good motor?
Not in the least, K series is a new platform, a post mortem was conducted by some of the best K series minds around. This knowledge will be used to push our platform to even higher levels, with safety.
Am I bummed/sad/pissed??
Not in the least. I took a risk, I lost. Tough ****, modding ain't for pussies, play hard or go home and play with Barbie.

Hahaha....
When I saw it was Shawn I was like WTF?? Just like everyone else.
Shawn tuned my first turbo setup and did a fine job. Its for sure not his fault, either like everyone said, shouldnt be stretching a stock block that way unless you got cash$$$.

why the hell is everyone flaming, he wanted to test the motor to its full capacity and that's what he did. the outcome was expected, but he didn't care because it was his own motor to blow up and that's what he decided to do!

because the logic behind this "test" of his is along the lines of:
"So I wanted to test out my human body to see what kind extreme limits it could take, so I went to skydive with a faulty parachute. Needless to say my body broke in many a pieces, and I am dead now, but hell, in my next life I'll know better and use a working parachute, maybe."
perhaps I'm blowing it out of proportion, so someone chime in.

Ok, a little "harsh" of an example. But to take yours further.
Would you test the limits of your body if you were homeless and your next life you were Hefner at the playboy mansion.
Lets just say the next motor, which was being built at the time, is a K24 from IPS. That K20A2 he blew up was a toy compared to the next motor. He was testing the limits for interested people like myself and others.
