integra pistons in 90 Si motor??????
just joined in! lots of canadians in here....eh!!!! well i bought a 90 D16A6 motor for 300 CDN a few days ago and my friend told me that i can put integra pistons in it to raise the compression. while its still out of the car i might as well do this but do i have to do any mods (connecting rods, crankshaft, etc.) what kind of pistons will bolt right in?? how about the ring gaps? will the gap be like stock Si specs? would i still be able to drive it in the winter season? i just wanna make sure before i ruin anything.
Check out this old thread. It covers that a little. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=141776
so if i decide to go with the integra pistons i would have to bore out the cylinder for the integra pistons to fit. hmmm...that's weird cuz my friend knows someone who has done this to their Si motor and just installed the pistons without doing anything to the block. well my friend who works at an acura dealership can get me integra type R pistons for 50 CDN each. i'm guessing these will not work, am i right?? since type R engines are DOHC with way bigger pistons. will the 5g and 6g civic pistons work in a D16A6??? or am i better off just doing the dx to Si head swap since the dx pistons have a slightly higher CR than the Si?? i don't know what to do!!!
dude did u read the link? d16a1 (88-89 integra) pistons match the bore of the d16a6. they just drop right in. take all four of your piston/connecting rod assemblies to a machine shop and have them put the d16a1 pistons on the d16a6 connecting rods. then drop back into your engine w/new rings. put a d16y8 headgasket on it (96-00 civic vtec) and you're good to go.
i have a d15b1 with a d16y7 head and y8 headgasket i have a d16a1 laying around the junkyard so i was contimplating the piston swap i may take em out very soon

no one of the guys that posted in that link said that he installed those pistons in his D16Z6 not D16A6. are the bores in those two engines the same??? and the y8 headgasket will perfectly fit the d16a6??? has anyone experienced any problems with using this gasket in their Si motor??? this is really confusing me! one person says you have to bore the Si block and the other says it drops right in the d16z6 block?? don't they both have the same bore size???
here this should help u out im considering the a1 pistons also but someone said to get zc pistons instead
http://www.raceseek.com/honda_specs.htm and all d series have the same bore apearantly

that link didn't mention anything about the d16a1 bore size. but yeah it seems like all d series engines have exactly the same bore size. what about the y8 headgasket?? won't that increase the CR a bit cuz its the thinnest gasket of them all?? will it match perfectly with the d16a6 block without any future problems???
If your trying to raise cr a little then the 88-89 teg pistons are a bolt in deal it raises comp by one full point and if thats not enough then shaving the head.40 will be another compression point that combo would put you around 11.5 to 12:1 compression. Why not go for a vtec head as well for even more hp gains.I build minime setups using the teg pistons and block guards new valve train etc..but after you spend all that why not just go zc? YOu can do lots to a zc
yo! bseriesrex! so the 88-89 pistons WILL work in the d16a6 without any boring or modding the block?? will i be able to use the Si connecting rods with the pistons?? also with this setup, am i looking at future engine problems?? what about the Y8 headgasket...will this increase the CR also or am i better off sticking to the stock Si headgasket to avoid any costly problems??
the pistons when combined with the y8 head yeild a 12 something compression because the y7 and y8 have smaller compression chambers im running a y7 head right now

yeh u use the a6 rods id shot pen em for better stregth if u got the time and all while there out... the y8 headgasket is wut im using honda atcually discontinued the a6 gasket now they give u a metal one from the 92-95 d16 and ull need knew headbolts for it also witch are 92-95 the old ones are discontinued also
what exactly is shot peening?? you are using the Y8 headgasket on your d16a6?? does it raise the CR a bit?? my friend works at an acura dealership and he can hook me up with the pistons but does it come with new rings??
i have a y8 head gasket on a d15b1 same block as the d16a6 its a 88 STD block... its the thinnest gasket honda makes... let me know how much u get the pistons for cause i get below list prices at the dealer also and id rather have new pistons also
shot penning is a way to harden a connecting rod by shot peening the sort of shoot the rod with beads ceramic or steel like a blacksimth pounds a peice of metal the shot peening hardens the rod to increase structural integrity

yea the piston rings are sold seperately from the pistons. im not sure how much the compression would be raised w/a1 pistons in an a6 block. the y8 headgasket should work fine tho. u gonna slap a y8 intake mani and b-series tb on there also? let that thing breathe.
im getting a z6 intake manifold and already have a ls tb thats going on as soon as i receive the intake manifold. i looked on hondaparts.com they want 35 for a a1 piston so i can probably get em 25 each from the dealer maybe less depends
man thats cheap for each piston! does it come with the rings?? is it necessary to get new rings?? and will any b series TB bolt right into the stock Si manifold and will the TPS just plug into the Si harness or do you have to rewire it?? and oh yeah i'm missing one injector on the manifold is it true that you can't use one of the dx injectors?? that guy who sold me the motor said that i can use the dx injectors. and its weird cuz my friend who works at the dealership can hook it up with integra type R pistons for only 50 CDN (roughly 25 US) man i think i'm missing a TPS also
