Which motor has higher top end?
I have the d16a6 and it just sucks on the interstate. I dont know if it is because of the transmission or what. I need a new motor i have 233k miles on my a6. A b18 is just to expensive. Which motor would be good for someone who does a lot of interstate travel at 80-90mph. I also want to have decent acceleration because i'll street racing every weekend. I did search i didn't find anything about their top ends thanks

You need to balance between good acceleration, and comfortable higway rpms. If you want to add something (comfortable ratios), you have to take it somewhere (good acceleration).
But what Top End got to do with this all? Its all about the gear ratios. Rebuild your A6 and replace transmission to something what has wider ratios. I think thats the cheapest method.
And lol for your street comment.

Sell it and buy something faster.
Oh wait, that's too expensive!
Shut up. To go fast, you need to spend money.
To street race, you need to go slow. So too bad so sad, stay slow.

lol,
top end is all about torque and gearing man.
and if ur gonna be street racing people in a 100 hp torquless wonder, u got something else coming to ya. and if a ls motor is too expensive for ya, why do you wanna street race? all street racing will do is break **** on ur car that you cannot afford to fix.
if u wanna race, get a car with some *****, like a good old fashion american car, say like a ss camaro/ws6 trans am, a v8 cobra, or hell even a dodge stealth/3000gt vr4
dont be an idiot, save the fast driving for the tracks
and i actually heard this today, not that im saying vtec is bad but this just what i heard
vtec = very torqueless economical car
hence TORQUELESS

p.s. dont let on that u street race- there are people that have no life that seem to search every single post just for the chance to flame somebody about street racing. A b18 motor wasnt that expensive i thought... If you do a lot of highway driving, I would get the b18 tranny, because you will cruise at lower RPMs when your on the interstate than if you had a b16 tranny. I have a b16 motor in my crx, with the b16 tranny, and its quick 0-60, but once your at 50 mph, in 5th gear, im doing 3000 RPMs. at 70 im doing about 4300... you get the idea. so, b18, ls tranny, longer gears=slower car, but lower cruising RPMs on the highway. Its a sacrifice either way, unless you get a b16 tranny with the b18 5th gear.
If you're going to street race, don't be an idiot about it. Make sure you're on some old abandoned road no one drives on. Keep it in a straight line too, don't do anyhting stupid like take turns at 100+ miles an hour...
this website seems to be filled with nothing but people who thrive on hearing themselves talk to make them feel important. the kid asked a question, just cause he threw in the street racing comment does'nt mean he should be flogged relentlessly until he decides this place is a waste of time. If you think your a know it all and have something to say why don't we try to see some of that so called "knowledge" be used in a decent way. now for the kids question if your old A6 is tired and you think its too slow but don't have money for a big B swap i would suggest saving for a B18A, an obd0 one. they are cheap as hell, you can find a whole swap for under $500 in pretty useable shape, modify the b18 shift linkage to fit your car, get some cheaper mounts or used ones, if you already have an A6 in your car its basically a plug and play ordeal, do lots and lots and then lots more research man, that search button in the upper right corner is your friend as this swap had been covered millions of times. good luck

JUSS keep your comments to yourself if all you can do is flame on a newb . Now i can bet that there isnt one damn person in this thread that hasnt street raced before , ya its not a good idea to do it all the time nor is it safe but it happens . As stated above he asked a question and added the racing part at the end . You guys feel the need to flame bc you think its cool bc he has a couple posts , but ive seen guys with a couple thousand posts say things about doing stuff dumber than that and not much is said . So lay off the new guy we have all been there and we are all here for the common goal of learning and asking questions . We all live within our means for the most part if all he can afford is a stock car with a minor mods here and there so be it . So if you cant help people out with simple questions than dont post . i can see letting someone to know to search or something but to go on and on about one line is bullshit (rant over )

I LOVED MY VR-4 !!! WOOO ******* HOO!!!! comfortable, FAST, and stuck to the road 9 only prob was the ride was a bit stiffer than i would like) and not in your price range HAHAHAA i sold my 91 vr-4 for 6000 now that was a crazy car!
besides the love for hondas i would buy one again anyday!
to street racing
i dont' see ya getting a better highway travel, just save more money. it took me a little bit more time than i wanted, but i saved. and like someone else said the b18a are cheap and you might be able to get one in your area for 500 but that might just cover some basics that you will need. the tranny, the axles, the ecu, the clutch, the time to swap, the time doing the shift linkage, and all this other stuff that seems to pop up on a swap. all this stuff will be extra... a normal swap into a crx, if you don't know a friend that knows someoen that has stuff for sale, ends up costing about 1000 ... plus time or labor
the b18a1 ys1 tranny has a long 5th gear and would be great for interstate travel.

I'v never street raced in my life.
If you want to keep the gears kinda short, but top end a little longer, swap in a dx tranny from the crx. longer than the si but not long enough to slow you down much. Or if you are really hard core, buy an hf tranny and swap it out each time you want to race.
BTW, I never condone street racing because some of my friends and people i have known have been hurt.
