That would be the VTEC oil pressure switch/sensor.

Run the VTEC solenoid wire to pin A4 on the ECU. Run the VTEC pressure switch to pin D6 on the ECU. Connect the pressure switch ground wire to a good ground.

Do I do this instead of hooking it up to the plug in the back of the block?

the one on the back of the block is the knock sensor - goes to B19 for OBD0 or D3 for OBD1

also what ecu are you running? I believe some obd0 jdm b16 ecu's don't need the pressure switch to engage vtec.

sounds mysterously, since the pressure switch is the thingie that activates vtak! Unless you got the Flux Capacitor, ofcourse.

Some jdm ecu's are set to engage vtec at a certain rpm without a pressure switch.

without the pressure switch? How does the car know when to activate vtec then? At my best knowlegde, the vtec is oil pressure driven. ergo, it needs an oil pressure switch that activates at given pressure.

i've wrenched tonnes of B16's. Never ever encountered one. But, Honda works in mysterious ways. I dont question you, it just doesnt sound logic to me. Thats all. I will dive into the matter.

over to the question at hand. If this is a swap with obd0 system you could be needing this.

Only the very late model jdm b16s have no oil pressure switch. OBD 0,1 need it to be there.
