went to change my plugs and there is oil in there -- enough to get about a half inch on the plug wire when i stick it in... is that a bad gasket or what -- and what is the fix???

time for some new tube seals. You can get them as part of a kit that will replace the

valve cove gasket
tube seals
grommets

if you have not had a valve adjustment done recently, now is a good time to do it.

 

Easy fix, pop the valve cover off and look inside of it. Around each spark plug opening is a rubber o-seal (some may have stuck to the head). Pull them out, pop in 4 new ones (couple of $$ each at the dealer or included in the gasket kit mentioned above). Reinstall cover, done.

i was able to do it myself without issue.

basically, go buy a new valve cover gasket kit from advance (like 16 bucks)

then take off valve cover with 4 acorn nuts (7 ft lbs)

take off grounding skrew and plug wires, label them so you know where they go. as well as spark plugs

take off any other pieces on valve cover and remove it.

now you have to take off the rocker arm assembly,

i forget the trq specs on these bolts

before you remove the rocker arms its a good idea to loosen the valves to take off any unnecessary stress caused during the process.

take a rawhide or soft hammer to help remove the assembly.

replace o rings, put rocker arms back on and trq to spec

valve adjustment comes next

then put all back together.

it's one of the "O" rings that is leaking in the valve cover, change your head gasket and the four rings come with the new gasket

 

It could be just the doughnuts under the valve cover. But most likely it's the orings under the rockerarms. Use the link above for instructions.
