I need some help
I have a 99 ex 5-speed and I think something is wrong with my transmission. Everytime I go from a stop in 1st gear, it feels like the car is trying really hard to get moving like either the trans is slipping or the power is struggling. Any suggestion would be great. Thanx.
The '99 has a hydraulically controlled clutch, which when it malfunctions will cause hard/no shifting; but it will not cause slipping.
I'd prefer replacing the entire assembly (Clutch Disc, Pressure Plate and Throw-out Bearing). I'd recommend ANY clutch brand other than the Duralast brand from DeathZone Auto Parts. There have been three incidents involving Duralast clutches in the last 5 weeks.

Since you are saying that the clutch wont cause slipping, could it still be the clutch or could it be something else? It went a way for about half a day and it doesnt happen if get the rpms high enough before i let out the clutch. I am so confused about what it is and what i should do.

P_Adams, is the '99 clutch that different from other Accords? Is the hydraulically controlled clutch used in the '06s? And to replace the entire assembly, roughly how much would this be for the parts and for labor? I also have a '99 with manual transmission, kind of wanting to know what I'll eventually be facing.
vtecpower3088, how many miles on your Accord? Just wondering how long your clutch lasted so I have a rough gauge for my car.

The clutch itself can cause slipping, but not it's control mechanism.
The Clutch Master Cylinder, piping and Slave cylinder are used to release it (true), but has no way of keeping it from applying once the pedals' released (unlike a cable release system which can be adjusted too tight)

Your Clutch does sound to be slipping (by your discription)

Honda started implimenting the Hydraulic Clutch release system with the 1990 model year Accords and continue to use it up to and including the 2006 model year.

Basically, they are the same systems; with minor differences. But they all work the same.
The anticipated costs for a clutch kit will differ on what you want. A standard Replacement Clutch Kit* would run $150.00 to $450.00 for a Race Quality Clutch Kit**
* Direct Replacement http://replacement.autopartswa...=true
** H/D Replacement
