Why Is My Car On the Riding On BumpStops?!?!
hello,
i recently made a post saying that i just bought some Kyb Agx's and H&R sports for my '91 Crx HF. Basically to make a long story short they were the wrong springs and ended up raising my car so i'm getting them to send me the right springs under warrenty blah blah blah..... but i was really pissed about this and got impatient to lower my car so instead of just re-installing my stock springs on the AGX's i cut them first to lower it (don't flame me about this i don't care and don't need to here it), i got a decent drop from it, probrably a 1 finger gap in the front and back which i've seen tons after tons after tons of ef's and crx's dropped just like this online but mine is on the f*cking bumpstops? i don't understand, and yes the bumpstops were shortened in half. BTW i took the chopped springs back out the next day but i still don't get why this happened because if i were to get H&R race springs instead with a 2.25" drop it would be lowered just as much and on the bumpstops again??

Hard to say w/o seeing it but the fact that you have AGXs and stcok cut springs should be a HUGH RED flag!!!! those struts suck and I know you don't wanna hear it but you can't exactly ask why it sits like that when you hacked your springs..............Get some better springs (which i know you are going to) and IMO replace the sorry AGXs with Tokicos, all though after installing your New springs on your AGXs see where it sits then.
why do the AGX's suck, your the very first person i've heard this from, i've only heard great things about them, and i know it was a horrible idea thats why i took them out the next day (cut springs). My main question was why was i riding on the bumpstops with still a 1 finger gap at all 4 corners? btw i'm on 205/50R15's, just does'nt seem right too me.
mkay. now 2 people have told you that agx's suck. they're a fine budget shock, but that's what they are.
how do you know it was bump stops you were feeling?
first- you were lowered on stock rate springs- if the rate was the same, you're going to move quite a bit- bottoming the shock, whacking the bump stop, or binding the spring.
second- spring rate is determined by wire thickness and number of winds. you are also messing with things if you heated them (i don't know how you cut them). this compounds tha above statement.
so, without flaming because you don't care, your idea was not a very good one and your results proved it. nobody here really cares either- all you did was monkey up some springs, waste a bit of time, and learn a bit about your car. if i had a beer for the number of actions i've made that would fit in that category, well...
i'd recommend putting the correct springs when you get them from the company that botched your order and using the agx's. everything should be fine. if it's not, there are a zillion folks here to try to figure out why.

okay i'll restate my question because i don't believe you guys are understanding me because i must be speaking mongolian. If i asked for your opinion on my shocks than great my ears are open but i did'nt so you can keep the negativity to yourself, and btw only 1 person has still told me they suck because you never actually stated it yourself you moron. i never heated my springs, was'nt asking if this was a good idea or not, i don't even have them anymore, they're gone, in the trash, and new springs on my car. Now heres my restated question which must have been so very difficult to understand, why was i riding on the bumpstops while still having a 1 finger gap? the reason i'm asking this is because i'm wondering if i will have trouble further lowering the car in the future. thanx to anyone that can answer my question without negative comments or trying to **** a guy off
actually better yet, can this post be deleted by a moderator because i will not ask for anymore help on this forum

you said only one person said they sucked so you must be right- just lending another opinion, not a personal attack. you didn't design the damn things.

you never said how you cut them. i pointed that out and provided one alternative explanation. (and yes, if you cut them they heated up a little bit regardless of what you used, but who's here to nitpick. i was talking about using a torch.)

What would be the best strut's with Neuspeed springs?

Neuspeed will tell you Koni... and so will most of us
CRX "race" springs from them are in the 500lbs range...

yeah i was questioning whether the spring/strut combo i got was actually for my rex and i think i confirmed that the springs are for a DA Teg thats why when i put them on it raised the car instead of lowering it, i'm getting those warrentied and hopefully the right set should be arriving by friday, we'll see how that goes. As for the struts i did'nt really think i had to question it much because side by side they looked just like my old struts and from what i've been told KYB uses the same part number for EF's and DA's which is stupid cause i thought DA struts were longer. When you guys are saying these struts suck are you talking about just the ride quality or are you talking about the actually quality of the product, the ride seems fine to me so far, i really just hope they are'nt POS's and blow in 6 months, you guys got me worrying that i just wasted $450 on shitty suspension

I used to work at a performance shop for 3 years and sold ALOT of Honda parts. The AGXs suck because like 80% of them would blow in the first few months if they did not blow this first WEEK!
I got tired of selling a product that made me look bad! I have always used Tokico 5-ways and had them on all 4 of my Hondas over the last ten years and never blew ONE, and anybody that knows me personally knows I drive like I stole it almost everyday and I also have my suspension set w/ about 1 finger gap in the fenders so I am not riding high by any means. Out of ALL the Tokicos I sold over the years I think about 2 of them blew but that was due to morons not installing then correctly. Konis are great but tend to be more pricey and also tend to be popular on the track than the street, the Tokicos are as easy to adjust as possible and work awesome for the strret and track (1/4 or road corse) and tend to be more affordable. Oh yeah I also set all my struts to setting 5 and never turn them down after day 1! So thinking that riding on the hardest setting will mess them up is just wrong, they are AWESOME and IMO they are all you need unless you plan on a full coilover setup to upgrade too
So to conclude, YES AGX SUCKS on hondas

sorry to repost to call you out but you are WRONG! maybe you were lucky enough to not have issues but I have seen WAY too many problems.
Friends don't let friends buy AGX (or OBX for that matter)

i think he was referring to not using them in an application where they are lowered more than the manufacturer recommends- something that has been shown to severely limit the life of that shock.
i've never used them, but i also haven't heard a lot of complaints from people using them as a budget performance shock with oem or otherwise soft and not-to-low springs.
