Default JDM ITR: Replacement of the foglight bulb and yellow lens?

My friend's yellow lens asploded in the housing and the bulb is out. Bulb was the stock watt's.

Has anyone tried replacing the yellow lens? All I found in the Archives was break them up and vacuum them out. If you want the yellow lens, just buy another headlight. I think that's unacceptable.

I have another yellow lens just trying to figure out how to replace the damn thing. The access cover is small as hell. Before I sit there looking at it for an hour I wanted to know if anyone knew how to get it out without taking the actual headlight apart.

If you tell me to search then tell me what to search for and there better be answer to my question there. I've spent all morning searching.

TIA,

Jim

You got any pics. I have a few ideas, but no JDM headlights in front of me.

No. There looks to be 2 screws in the access hole that will take something out but you need an angled screwdriver to get them out. The space is so tight that I'm wondering if the new lense will even fit in.

can't you just bake the headlights at 250 for 10 minutes in the oven and separate the rear of the housings from the front then change out whatever you need? it's commonly done on many cars by people who want to black out their headlights, or remove USDM amber reflectors (04+ wrx, etc...)

Yes. But I'm trying to figure out how to do it without taking the front lens off.

You cant access the bulb or yellow globe thing without removing the front lens, i had one break on me last year, i took the easy route out and bought a complete headlight to replace it. But if you dont want to go down that route then i suggest you pull out the headlight, break up the rest of the yellow glass into small pieces, vacuum out the glass and buy a yellow H3 bulb to fit into it.

That was going to be my suggestion. You wouldn't be able to tell unless you're looking super hard.

Yes, you can take the whole headlight lens off and replace the yellow foglight lens.

Tonight I will be taking a junk JDM ITR Headlight apart and seeing what I can come up with. I'll post some pics either tonight or tomorrow of the progress.

Another question:

From my searching yesterday everyone said that the reason this yellow lens breaks is because of the wrong watt bulb. If we end up leaving the lens out and just buying the yellow bulb, can I get a higher watt bulb? I dont see why not. I know "sgt", was running 110w bulb and never had the yellow lens explode, if I dont have the yellow lens then I shouldnt have anything to worry about, correct?

I hate electricity, dont understand the concept and really dont want to learn.

TIA

Well I took it apart last night. I didnt have any luck removing the yellow capsule. There is one last thing I want to try and that is to adjust the foglight all the way down and see if I'll have enough room to get it out.
