gutting the car
now i was wondering when you gut the backseats and all that in a 1992 prelude did you take out where the speakers in the rear go? by the rear window, and the kicker panels in the back? sorry if this doesnt make too much sense
i suppose you could mount the speakers in the side panels...but if youre serious about losing weight, just ditch em....and get some 3x5 speakers for the tweeter holes...they sound very nice in my car....
though im just gonna go ahead and assume that you are not serious about weight loss and you just wanna gut the car for the racer factor, in that case, just mount the speakers on the nos bottle bracket

By the way im planning on buy a 94-96 center console, because my 92's goes all the way to the back, when you said you took everything out, did you leave the front alone or take out your door panels and carpet? i dont really even care about the rear speakers, i dont have any in there anyway.

Because of the principle........
Do it all or not at all.
It seems like you're half-*** gutting the car. I think it'll look stupid if you keep the front and not the rear. But its all about what you like. You'll still lose some weight no doubt.

No offense, but that doesn't help him at all.
Tell him why you regret it........
I'm thinking about gutting my car also. But thats later on down the road when i get more serious.
Another point is- if you gut the car, keep everything; otherwise, it will be more difficult to sell in the future.

I didnt like it because of what you said a few posts up. I did it half assed, no rear or trunk and everything up front. it looked like hell and i didnt loose all that much weight...
my $.02 is that shaving 5lbs of unsprung weight and/or rotational mass per wheel will give you better performance gains that simply taking 100lbs of mass out of a 3200lb car.

No ******* way. You simply can't get 200 pounds out from the lightweight interior we have.

why do i hear mixed weights about the lude?
first its 2900, then its 3000, then its 3200...are you including the driver?
all around honda-tech i swear...</TD></TR></TABLE>
i know the weight changed with the 5th generation being heavier,
but i wonder if a 95 vtec would weight more than a 95 si ?
because i hear that the h22 is one of the heaviest moter out there from honda.
but i don't know if the weight would be that differant

The H22 is about the same as the H23. I would say the H22 is just a bit heavier due to the beefier crank and the taller and more complex head.
Especially with our Preludes, there just isn't enough weight to save to justify having your car look like utter crap on the inside. I mean you MAY save 40-50 lb's, if you remove the tar and everything.....

if you have one, the sunroof stuff weighs about 50 lbs, w/ motor. it's worth taking out if you don't use it cuz it's so high up in the cabin.
gutting a street car makes no sense to me. you have no idea how much sound is absorbed by the seats and panels--driving the completely gutted race car around the corner sounds like marbles are falling out of every crevice in the car. i wouldn't want to deal with that every day on my way to work or school.
