Default Emergency! If you have a Helms handy, please respond.

I've got my car up in the air in the garage, and I don't know how long the puny 1.5 ton 1975 edition Sears jack is going to hold it... I installed ES shifter bushings yesterday, and got some really wierd vibrations when I hit VTEC today. Didn't have the proper socket for the torque wrench when I did the install, so I just tightened them real good. I'm guessing I was off. Could someone please give me the torque specs for the three bolts? One bolt is on the bushing on the tranny, the other two on the bracket below the shifter... THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Very helpful...they were already TIGHT, and it's possible they are too tight. I would prefer to get the correct torque specs.

Well, I guess you got lucky... I made sure mine were plenty tight, and then there was a racket coming from the shifter on the way home from work today. They are either too loose (I don't think so) or too tight...

If someone could actually give me the numbers, and not tips on how to turn the wrenches, I would really appreciate it.

I assume you're talking about the rear torque mount? The two lower bolts are 86.8 lb-ft. each, and the upper two bolts (one goes through the ES inserts, and the other attaches the "triangle" to the tranny) are 43 lb-ft. each.

86.8 lb-ft?.....I don't think so.....that seems way too high for a bushing. I am talking about the ES shifter bushings, not the motor inserts or anything...

Oops, I had a retarded moment - didn't read your post very well. Give me a second and I'll leaf through Helms for the factory shifter bushing torque #'s.

THANK YOU!!! I really appreciate it... One bushing, below the shifter, has two bolts. At the other end on the tranny is another bushing with one bolt.

BTW, I think it is the last page in the transmission section of the Helms...(but I can't remember what the damn numbers were! )

im on the page right now, 13-50. Don't quite understand what you want though. If its the nut that goes through the botom of the shift lever, the spec is 16lb/ft on that.

On the bottom of the tranny, at the end of the shifter is a small round bushing held in by a washer with a bolt. I need the torque spec for the bolt that holds in this bushing.

At the other end of the shifter is a bushing, held in by a u-shaped bracket and two bolts. I also need the torque specs for the two bolts that hold in this bracket and bushing.

the two bolts for hte bracket im reading as 16 lbf/ft
the other one, at the botom, is the same.

Also, this isnt at the botom of the tranny... in fact it's not really near it at all.

Ok, the bolt that goes through the bushing (connects the extension rod to the tranny) is 16 lb-ft (Helms pg 13-48).

You're going to have to describe a little better which 2 bolts below the shifter you're talking about. I haven't installed ES inserts for the shifter, and looking at Helms, there are a couple of bolts you could be talking about.

STOCK RUBBER BUSHINGS ABSORB VIBRATIONS BETTER THAN ES POLYURETHANE BUSHINGS, I DON'T THINK IT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH TORQUE SPECS.
