Default Car goes clunk

Every time I brake realy hard and come to a stop I hear this clunk noise. I am not realy sure any other way to desribe it. You can feel it on the passenger side more than the driver side. This happened before but then it went away; currently it is gone again. Would a bad axle do this, I'm just wondering cuz when I brake now the abs is super choppy then when I get to low enough speeds it stops being choppy. I checked the rotors and pads on another car so that is not the prob. I was wondering if these two are related. The car has about 130k on it, is it time for a new axle??

check your L bracket. And motor mounts. Thats what solved my 'clunk'

My L bracket was missing a bolt.

Were is the L bracket located and I It's not the motor mount. I chalked all the locations and drove downt he street and slammed on the brakes, no chalk smear any were. If it were the motor mounts wouldn't it keep doing it all the time not just stop??

Well from my experiences, when I had the 'clunk'.. When I breaked it caused vibrations, so the motor was shaking the L bracket which cause a slight vibration throughout my whole car. It happens when I was backing up, breaking, breaking at high speeds..

The culprit for mines was number 11, and I was missing bolt number 22.

mkay lemme throw in my 2 cents.

I used to have this exact same problem, i'd hear the "clunk" mostly when going through drive-thrus because i'd accelerate hard then brake hard and that clunk would happen. Then, one of my axles went out. I replaced both and this problem has been resolved so far. Checked all my ball joints while replacing the axles and all was well. Motor mounts are fine too. I'm betting this is an axle issue

BTW, i've got 167k on my car now, it started doing it around 125k. Axle just broke 2 weeks ago, replaced them both over this last weekend so i have yet to really give the old problem a chance to come back. We'll see though, seems to be fine so far.

The spare is secured. That sux Max powers Mine only goes clunk when I step on the brakes and the car is almost at a complete stop. The only reason I thought of the axle is because it has so many miles on it. Kinda weird that it does it some times and other times not. So all day today I've been trying to get it to do it again and nothing, not even a little bit. Guess I will just passenger axle and see whats up. Hehe kinda funny cuz I need to replace the wheel bearing on that side anyways.

I had this problem and it was a loose swaybar endlink. I scratched my head on that one for over year and it drove me crazy on bumpy roads.

Thats the thing it does it only when I brake not on road bumps not on anything else just braking. I am sure it is the axle I am going to get a new one when I can afford one. Any one know the cost of one, currently living in Cali. Would it be easier to buy one online or should I just get new one without getting a rebuilt. I hear people are always having problems with them. I wanna do both sides if I am to do one side the other side might as well get done.

i have that same problem. only when i stop really fast, like in an emergency. my first guess was a motor mount. but it sounds more under me rather than infront of me were the motor mounts are. im stumped

I do have a camber kit but, I don't know how the camber kit would make that noise and why only on one side. It does not look like it is hitting top or anything

what kind of camber kit are you using? is it full upper arm or inserts? the inserts do that alot.... the arm does it too... so try tightening it up on both sides of the arm where it pivots... sometimes they will move side to side when you brake... if thats the problem, then you might wanna pull the whole arm out and grease it up real good with molygraphite grease because if you tighten both sides of the arm real tight, it will squeak... the grease will let it be tight, and not sqeak or clunk.... thats just if it is the camber kit.... if your out of solutions, u mite wanna try it... wont take very long

as for the braking being wobbly itself.... that might be a different issue... sounds like rotors... maybe u bought warped ones... did you replace the pads the same time? ABS does make a clunk nopise when u brake hard tho....

I'll check the camber kit it is the skunk two camber kit... I see whats up witht eh side arms. I am pretty sure the axle is bad know it has gotten super bad and only clicks pretty hard when I turn right. I try and get one before friday and get on a rack on saturday or sunday. Rotors are good for sure and I am sure it is related to the axle cuz now even when I brake a little bit the axle is clunking. For now I am going to replace the axle and wheel bearing for the passenger side and see were that gets me.

OK checked the caliper bolts, camber kit arms, and shocks. I ended up taking everything apart and putting it back together. I made the camber arms a little tight incase that was it. So they groan a little bit. The problem is gone for now but this happened the last time a jacked it up to see if anything wa loose. It went away for a few days and then came back. Also an update it started to clunk a little when I turned, but currently their is nothing.
ABS, how so?

yea replace the axle and go from there./. that way u can concentrate on 1 noise at a time... i hope you greased up those arms! make it alot smoother and less noise.. i got the skunk2 also thats why... molygraphite grease works well... cluk when u turn is definatly an axle
