Default H23 is a interferance engine right?

I know a guy that has one with a broken crank. He says the head and valves are still good because the motor was only idling when it happened. Is this the truth or is this guy full of ****?

The H23 is certainly an interference engine. If the timing belt broke, its very likely that things are going to be damaged. I've heard of people breaking the timing belts at idle before, and not having any internal damage. But if it was me, I'd still get it checked out just to be safe.

So this guy's timing belt broke and consequently his crank broke?

Well I'm a few hundred miles away from.where the engine is right now so I can't just check it.The guy just said it has a broken crank didn't say anything about the timing belt.It just seems wierd.
Ive never heard of a crank just breaking.

For some odd reason, I want to say that I remember someone over on PO.com saying that the H23 is just barely a non-interference motor......don't quote me on that, but it's bugging me.

if a crank "breaks" i would like to think that something other than a timing belt would cause that. maybe its my lack of experience, but i've never heard of a crank breaking. maybe it needed to be turned but never broken. my $.02

It's such a pain in the *** trying to find a complete h23 head swap for my f22.I'm talking to a guy on Cb7tuner about one but I think he sold the dizzy on me.The f22 distributer won't work on a h23 head will it?

I would like to know some possible reasons to why the crank would break. I have a similar story where a friend of mine said the crank in his 90k H23 engine just broke without any known causes.

That picture looks familiar. Same thing happened to mine, it was due to a spun bearing. The cylinder head, valves ect in mine appeared to be fine.
