Default How to achive 280whp for a B20/B16 VTEC.

Guys im in the process of building a B20B/VTEC and looking for advice on how to achieve 280+ whp, as im from downunder we dont have the r&d as you's have in the US.

Our pump gas has 100 0ctane, if this will help and we have good aftermarket ecu's in Oz.

Motec, ems, haltech, microtech, ect.

Basic work in doing is,

PNP Head should flow about 290 +cfm
all new valve train
Skunk 2 intake manifold
Jun3 cams or tomei s2
84.5mm 12.5:1 pistons standard sleeves honed
b20b crank
eagle rods

Should i use a large throttle body or go 50mm ITB.

Any help would be appreciated, and for those how have built some high hp B20/Vtec please advise.

your going to need alot more than that to make 280whp all motor on a b-series. probably going to need more compression, a better intake manifold, an amazing header and some VERY good headwork/cams.

probably RON. so its really equivalent to our 95 octane. still better than pump 93 though

ditch the B20 block. The B20 is proven weak, the sleeves will crack.

Do you have $15,000 set aside to make this happen? It is going to take some serious effort and probably some trial and error, which directly translates to $.

Good luck.

I think you're gonna need more compression for 280 WHP. That is quite the tall order for an N/A B series engine. I'd say 13.5:1 +

Ditch the b20, and go dart. If you want to hit 280whp on a bseries, you need like 20K invested in the eng alone. I THINK Tbone is CLOSE to those numbers, and last time I spoke with him he had at least 20K+ into that eng(I guess he is building another as we speak)...

Honestly, Id just go K24, it will prolly be less expensive, and less work to make some killah numbers. My 2 cents...

Good Luck
Ryan

yes it is 100 RON.

Ive built a motor for a freind with 11.5:1 comp
similar set up to what im talking about and he made 255whp running a motec M4 ecu.
His head flowed 316cfm.

i think tbone is putting down like 255whp now. last time i saw his car at the dyno he was doing header/intake testing and he was in the 240's i believe and from what i could tell he had a shitload of money in it and alot of tuning time

what ecu is tbone running, you could have the best set up in the world but if your brain is not working then your wasting your time.
We have made 255whp on freinds car.

You should have posted this in the all motor forum, you better have ALOT of $$, im not sure this is even feasible on pump gas. I would say your wasting your time. Take a K24 block, build up the bottom end, K20 S/R head with very mild port, IPS cams and appropriate valvetrain, a good header, ITBs and Kpro will net you over 300whp. It will cost less, be more reliable and you have the option to run 6 gears

First, don't ditch B20 block. Most of the guys with high HP resleeve it with ductile iron sleeves (Earl, Benson, GE..) Resleeve it and you will be able to rev to the moon. Get new rods (gram lights) and high compression pistons 12.5 or better.

Two, you will need some really good head work. Something that can flow about 320 or greater and BC4 cams

Three, I would get a get intake manifold and get it ported. ITBs are tricky and far too often people loss power. Get the the magic intake (velocity stack, etc.)

Four, you will need a very good header like SMS, RMF, or DTR.

Five get a good ecu like AEM or Hondata.

This may not get you all the way there but it will be pretty close to the high HP set-ups I've seen around here.

Oh yeah, this is going to cost a good piece of cash er a lot of money.

Hondata are somewhat of a rarity down here.
Most of the modded cars here are running motecs.

I'm probably going to get flamed for this but imho motec > hondata anyway.

i would have ran a bigger Throttlebody.
i'm aming the high values on the NA curve myself. But im running the Toda stroker kit as well. 0.6mm toda headgasket for higher compression with numerous ekstra mods as well.

Toda ITB's are gold. :D they cost a shitload of money, but are well worth the money.
