Just bought a 2000 GSR
Hi, just joined the forum. I've had my GSR for about an hour now, I'm looking to do the usual mods. Where is a good place to start? everyting is stockk from what i can see, only 32000 miles. Wasn't really my first choice, but I'm happy so far. any help is appreciated.

Firstly I recommend suspension mods. You really have to enjoy driving the car and taking corners. Get the feel of the car. Get new shocks, springs and an ITR sway bar. Knowing how your car behaves is very important.
Read around the board. Do searches on archived posts. Decide if your going to mod lightly or heavily. Decide on all motor or FI. Turbo or JRSC. A lot of archived posts are very informative with pro's and cons of each set up. Got any problems post it here. Enjoy the new car, baby it and it will never give up on you.

congrats dgtlwar!! i totally agree with GS-R_ocks. suspension is way to go, what 's the point of going fast if a car can't handle it.
1. ditch the oem tires
2. itr sway bar
3. spring/shock combo. if you have the $$$ go with the coilover, you can get tein's and zeal's for a little over a grand.
if you wanna go NA; I/H/E is always good place to start.

I really know noting about these cars. I have a 91 accord, and i've been a mostly mazda rotary guy. But it seemed like a good deal, and i knew it wouldnt last there. It's Magnetic blue(purple)
with the polished rims. I really didnt look too good under the hood, but it was clean and all stock.
I'll see about the tires, because the dealer is replacing all the tires in a couple days. I may go for larger rims, not sure yet. I really haven't driven the car, because it's been raining. Tommorow i'll take itr up I95.
does I/H/E = intake/header/exhaust right?
I think I'll spend a little more for quality.
So.
1. suspension
2. intake
3. header
4. exhaust.
thanks for the help. I guess i'll be having a little fun later.

Congrats on your GS-R! You'll fall in love with it after you start driving/racing it!
If you want go mods, I say go with the old I/H/E combo first. Gives you a few ponies and makes your car sound mean. You can go the Handling Route with the Suspension mods. There are a TON of mods out there for the B18C, so you will enjoy pickin and choosin which route to go...

What kind of polished rims? is it still the stock rims? If youre gonna get rims soon, choose wisely. get the lightweight ones. Bigger and heavier rims will hurt the car's performance when stock.
Also I/H/E.....get that if you aint going turbo. Like I said, decide on how far your gonna go in terms of mods. There are tons of aftermarket out there. Drag III is under 3k. Turbo is the best bang for the buck. Read around the forced induction section, they might convince you to go to the darkside too

yeah, the're factory rims, the twisted spoke type.
how reliable is a turbo setup, for daily driving. I put on like 60 + miles a day.
well. i think i may just chill with it for a few weeks, before i go crazy.

Turbo/JRSC/ALL Motor. They can all have the same reliability. The key to all of these set up is TUNING! It will cost you to have a reliable motor. But boosting 7-8 psi on a stock motor with a standalone ecu is good enough for me. (thats my set up i'm doing pretty soon
)
Yeah and I do agree with you. have fun having it stock. Build up slowly so wont hurt your wallet as much

Just be sure to do a lot of research; the search feature on this board is a good start--lots of good info for those starting out. Decide first on what you want to do with the car (Will it be strictly a daily driver? Occasional track/auto-X?). That should help narrow the choice and type of modifications to make. If possible, try to stick to a budget, 'cause this thing gets addicting real fast!
G'luck!
