Yamaha to buy back 06 R6
I still am not sure what this letter is really saying, that they miscalculated the actual red line by 9% or that the bike is really doing 17,500 rpm's but the tach will never reflect that because of a 9% tach error?
At least they acknowledged the **** and is stepping up to buying all them bikes back
I say they should just fix the broken tacho's and call it a day. A 16K red line is pretty aiite to me.

I am pretty sure it is that they miscalculated the tac. It redlines at 16k, but shows 17.5k.

The bike does not redline as adverstised. Dyno's have shown that the bike redlines at 16200rpms which is where the fuel cut off is. The problem is on the dyno, the bike is shown revving to 16.2k but at the same time its showing 17.5k on the tach.

i think the main problem is that a 16k redline is no a gimmick, like a 17.5k redline is. A 16k redline, in terms of sales pitch, is just the same as the previous R6. But the previous r6 had 20 more horsepower in the midrange than this new bike.
From what i've read of the first ride tests of the R6, it'd be a terrible street bike, and a good track bike. I know the whole trend right now is to build awesome sport bikes that can dominate the track, but i really want someone to make a sport bike that has race inspired technology and styling, with street practicality. Like the Honda New American Sport concept bike.

then you should buy last years aprillia RSV Mille.
it has less yet more predictable power than the new ducati v twin and everthing i have read about it says that its suspension is too soft for the track but perfect for the street.
but dont get the mille R for the street or the mille R factory. they dont like nomal paved roads very much. but they are damn fond of the track.

thanks for the suggestion, although me actually owning an aprilia seems pretty rare. I'll look into it.
Until then, i can't find another bike i'd rather ride than my 03 F4i.

Or better yet send everyone a decal for it that says "RPM in tachometer may be lower than they appear."

This says alot about how the company wants to be perceived. They are trying not to use a band aid fix. Basically they are saying that they stand behind their products and if something malfunctions they will make it right. There aren't too many companies these days who share the same values.
