Default Aftermarket Speakers with Stock Headunit(prelude head unit) 92 EG

A buddy informed me that a stock system isnt enough to power aftermarket speakers, and that im better off with like some GSR ones. Ive already blown a pair of GSR ones though, and i was wondering if i blow a good amount on say like 50 or 60 dollar speakers for a pair meaning i buy 2 for front and back that it wont be as loud as the stock GSR ones, is this a possibility?

The weak link in the system is the oem HU, installing better, [higher power] speakers will not help, an can in fact make it worse, everything is dependent on the amplification and the source, [HU] and until it is changed don't expect to improve on SQ, bass response or speaker longevity 94

Yea, i mean im just happy how loud the stock speakers were with my stock prelude head unit, up until i blew the speakers lol. What i want is just the same sound but this time wont blow if i play it too loud.

That is what is blowing the speakers, turning it up loud, what you are doing is "pushing" the amp to the point that it goes into "clipping" or [it starts to distort]
and that is what is blowing the speakers, and it will not make a diff. if you have 25W speakers, or 100W speakers, [it's not the watts, it's the DC current]. 94

O ****. I see. I always thought that it was the material that the speaker was made out of, like that foam. Cause i blew my old GSR ones so bad that the foam cracked like a bitch.

You get much more clean "headroom" when you have more wattage. 94
