My sister's car is acting kind of strange. Usually I can start it up and it drives fine. However, every now and then I'll start it and it will idle unusually low and die. This will happen for a while and eventually after several tries I'll be able to start the car and drive. My sister has told me that there have been times where she has had to continuously try to start the car for more than 30 minutes. Can someone give me a basic run down on what I should check for? Do you wait for the lights to come on and then turn the key or do you turn the key immediately? My friend told me I should just turn the key immediately and not wait at all for the lights to come on. I don't know if this would help.

 

I turn the key immediately, but I'm not sure how this would be an issue.

 

I think it had something to do with the battery, but not to sure exactly what he meant. Maybe you can hold the key for a second or 2 longer before letting go.

 

After searching some other forums, I led to believe that it's the main relay. It describes the same symptoms and is apparently pretty common.
