Default 97 Honda Japan-built

I have a 97 Accord, and it was built in Japan. I was told that the engine in my Accord was different than engines in Accords made in the US. How are the engines different, and how does that contribute to the value of my car?
Thanks!
Teresa

where was the car released?
if all your saying is that you bought an accord in the US/Canada and saw the "made by honda of japan" sticker under your hood then no, its no different than say an accord coupe made in a north american facility. and it doesnt contribute any value to your car

It's an automatic, and the dealer said the engine was sporty or has a racecar engine because it was built in Japan. It drives normal, as in the driver sits on the left hand side, like cars made in the US, and is eucalyptus colored.

I'm not sure whether it's dx/lx/ex. I know it's the middle grade, with power locks, power steering, and cruise control, but no moon roof or leather seats. I'm not sure which -x that corresponds to.

I don't have any pictures, but I will try to get some.

If you bought that car just because the dealer told you it had a "racecar" engine, you totally got screwed. You probalby got bent over by the dealer too!
As far as your description, it sounds like you have the LX model. And a LHD Accord means you have the exact same motor as the rest of the US Accords unless there was a swap done to it, in which the dealer will have close to no idea unless the prior owner told them so.
Out of curiosity, what did you pay for this? How many miles too?

I'm assuming you bought the car used? Sounds like the salesman had no clue what he was talking about.

Based on what you've said, it sounds like you have an LX model.

Does the engine look more like this:

or this (ignore the silver intake):

Looks just like the middle picture.
Actually, we bought it new. No clue what my parents paid for it. I can't imagine them paying more than what normal Accords cost. I don't think they bought it just because they were told it had a racecar engine, but because they liked the way it drove.

I belive the middle picture is a f22b2, which has 130 hp.. not very "race car" lol , but i could be wrong about the engine type *shrugs* but it looks EXACTLY like mine and mines a f22b2 which infact has 130hp

might wanna tell the dealer to get his stuff right before he goes telling false info.

Yeah, if you bought it new, you definitely have the US motor. The salesman that sold you the car is either a complete idiot or tried to pull fast one on your parents. If a salesman at my dealership had said that, he would have been fired on the spot.

But rest assured, the car is the same as every other 97 Honda Accord LX sold in America. (With the exception of the V6 and people who have changed their motors, of course.)

there is no difference between a 5th gen accord built here in the USA versus Japan. Cars were built here first and when demand exceeded capacity, they were imported from Japan. Same for the 6th gen cars.

Looks a lot like the engine that was in my 92EX (black valve cover). But it had 140hp. Seems like this one would have more than 130hp. It's newer. I think if it has a J in the vin #, it was put together in Japan.

consider that engine to an f22a1 which is 125 hp in the 90-93 accord,f22a6 92 accord with 140hp verse 145 hp vtec in the 94-97 accord... Correct me if i am wrong

so 125hp lx motor f22a1 90-93 accord
130 hp lx motor f22b2 94-97 accord

they steped it up 5 hp

So the 97LX has less hp (130) than a 92EX (140). What did the 97EX have in hp?

He prob meant the car was made in japan. Usually first letter of the VIN should be J if it was made in Japan if i remember correctly. But you still get the normal USDM stuff in it.
