4cyl. valve adjustment
Hello. I'm new to this site as of 2-13-06.
I bought my first Honda a few months ago. I love it by the way.
It is a 2002 Accord LX 4cly. 4dr. with a F23A1 motor. It has 61,000 miles.
I have read about valve adjustment on these motors and was wondering if the valves really get so far out of adjustment that the cost of the repair is justified? I mean on a stock daily driver.
Thanks for any input.

well it definatly should be done, its pretty easy for the do-it-yourselfer so i am unsure if the price is justified...i guess the price would be justified if you cant stand the noise of a chattery valvetrain...
sorry to jack your thread
but i wonder about my ride aswell. she sitting at the shop going through the major construction i had planned for the summer and im happy with that. the thing is,valve adjustment. since i came across this thread i wondered if i needed mine to be adjusted. what symptoms am i to look for? just sounds?

it's not a repair, it's more of a maintenace type of thing.
mine was off a tad, i have a 02 with 33K but it's been beaten and abused daily
you can feel the car drives better afterware, there's not much indication just go by the miles

The owners manual will tell you when it is time for adjustment. I'd replace the tube seals and valve cover gasket as well it only adds $30 to the cost. I got mine done on my 94 LX for $130 including the replacement of the tube seals and gaskets. It would suck if they adjusted your valves and then your car started to leak oil because they reused the gaskets.
That's it, just sounds. Depending on how many are out of adjustment; it can range from a single light 'tick' from the top of the engine to a calliope of 'ticks'. It can sometimes be heard clearer with the engine running thru the hole for the oil filler cap.
