04 Suspension/Tire/Wheel Question
I just had a set of Yokohama ES100 in 215/50/17 put on my 04 LX 4cyl. (stock 205/65/15). The wheels are rota subzero 17x7.5. They were put on about a month ago, aligned, balanced, the whole speel. Now, it seems as if the car is going everywhere on the road at speeds upwards of 70 mph (between 65-85 mostly). This only happens on the highways around downtown Orlando and the outlying suburbs, where there roads are somewhat under construction, but even in the parts where it is perfectly smooth, flat surface, the steering colum and car seems to drift this way and that. I know it can't be a suspension problem because the car is close to having 20k miles on it. So, I think it is a problem with the wheels/tires. But, which and what specific? Did they mess up the cambers? Are the lugs not tight enough? I had the installation done at TireKingdom so the installers are reliable.

Some tires have a tendency to go where the road takes them. (especially when the road has been scraped for repaving.) Just a guess though.
Yeah but the whole suspension is "floaty", not tight like it was before. I have a set of Tein S Tech springs in the mail, maybe that might help?

You might need an alignment. Some tyres are directional and assymetric, and these tyres might have some designed-in toe.
If you replaced some new-design tyres with some old-design tyres (the ES100 is an old design), then you might need a slightly different alignment for a little more toe in.
Don't take my word for it or jump to a conclusion. Based on experience, however, that is one possibility.

1)let's do it one at a time.
you said you got the car on the rack before, what is the before and after spec for the alignment?
2)what kinda of suspension you have?
if you have some crazy spring rate spring and unmatched rebounce and damper, it will ride like an ****.
don't know how bad is your steering/pulling/drifting problem but it's common for a lower car with worn tire can pull on side randomly mostly during acceleration

Suspension is completely stock.
I don't know the alignment, i let the guys who did it handle that. However, they did tell me that they would need to put a more negative camber in because the tires were different than stock. (stock is 205/65/15) Before these tires, I had a Michelin HydroEdge tire on in 215/65/15(fairly new model I think) for 4k miles. Once I have the springs put on Friday, I'll have them redo everything (since i get it for free anyways) to see if that is the issue.
