Default Will someone explain to me why a d16a6 is so praised ???

Like the topic says., I'm new to the D-series game and would like some facts about the d16a6 and why its so favored.

Yes I did a search but results where never specific or it would be a for sale thread

It's not...

It is a very old engine, usually beaten up. It doesn't have VTEC and it's the lowest HP D16 out there.

The only good part, it's cheap to buy, it pumps out alot of power for the engine. It's an easy swap and it's MPFI.

well stock, the z6 zc, y8 and d15b vtec all put out good numbers,zc is dohc, but is not vtec, zc dont know much about that, i think its dohc, not sure, never really researched it too much. the d15b is sohc but is vtec, i think they all put out 120+ hp, but the z6 has more torque because of the .1 displacement. the most aproved d16, i have no idea, i dont know that much about d series

bjorn20 is wrong.

the d15b has more torque then a z6 by far, it has the same torque as a 2nd gen b16, with 130 horsepower...the d15b is the best d-series

D16Z6 1.6 16V SOHC VTEC PGM-FI 1590 125hp@6600rpm 106tq@5200rpm '92 - '95 Civic EX/Si (USA)
'93-'95 Del Sol Si (USA)

d15b is at 130hp and 116tq

the d15b is a better engine then the d16z6, and the d16z6 is better then just about all of the d-series

the head on the z6 is awesome and flows better than any other sohc head out there... its also vtec so thats just an added bonus... the reason why youve heard other people say that the A6 is better is because it has a stronger block... in the future when i get into serious power i will most likely be building a built A6 block with either a ported y8 or z6 head... good luck on your decision

A6's are so coveted because of their reliability and somewhat decent power possibiites. They are also stock in the si's which means you don't have to swap anything and it just becomes a matter of building what you already have.

D16a6's are great motors

what everyone is forgetting is with this HP & Torque numbers, they were tested with the proper ECU. The D15 ECU tuning maps are different than what you will find in the most commonly used P28 maps of the US ECUs.

How many people with the D15s are using the proper D15B oversea's ECU vs. the P28 (even non-dyno'd chipped set ups).

the d16a6 is a good solid workhorse. it's not the most powerful, but will serve its master well.

The a6 motor is the original mini me. They have flat top pistons for 10.1- 10.5 compression depending on the vtec head. The 88-89s had steel main caps making it the best block for high hp applications.

i would say it is the strongest sohc non vtec engine. exospeed cam, a1 pistons, and a good port will net some nice numbers. Way back when, it was the best engine and I still think to this day, for the sohc non vtec engine it is the best.

Um, no. The D15B VTEC has neither 130hp nor 116 lb-ft of torque. Whose *** did you pull those specs from?

Didn't your mother ever tell you not to believe everything you read on the internet?

Whoever is advertising those specs is bullshitting.

The OBD-1 D15B VTEC makes 128hp @ 6800 RPM, and 102 lb-ft @ 5200 RPM.

The OBD-2 D15B VTEC (3-stage) makes 128hp @ 7000 RPM, and 103 lb-ft @ 5300 RPM.
