NOISE from pulley side of engine bay. belts come off!!
JDM 4th gen, out of nowhere i got loud knocking/ticking sound coming from what seemed like one of the pulleys. The more I gave throttle, the more frequent the consecutive knocks/ticks were. Previous to this one of my pulleys were screeching upon start of car. I tried moving the car to drive it for some help, within a few meters the engine light came on, then the power steering belt came off, and also AC/alternator belt had come off. Doesn't look like any damage has been done, do I just need new belts put on?? am hoping everything else is ok.
I had it tightened, but was still screeching. But now the belts have come off, am worrying it could be something worse.... or was it just old belts?? no idea what the knocking noise was
It could've been that your belts were misaligned in there or old. And that would cause some of the screeching especially if they're old or too tight.
Yeah! the crank pully is v loose/moving around. I hope its just a case of tightening the bolt and nothing is damaged, am not with the car right now so will have to wait a while. Is there a certain torque setting to tighten to?

gonna need a crank pulley holder of some kind.</TD></TR></TABLE>
anyone know why this is such a problem? I honestly don't see how an impact being used on the crank pulley seems to be the cause of this (in most cases it appears). It would seem that an impact would get the bolt tightened more than a torque wrench. The samething happened to me but it ended up tearing up the pulley & the bolt, and some of the threads in the crank.
Not meaning to thread jack, just asking.
