HI... NEW BATTERY INSTALL & FACTORY ALARM GOES OFF
Hi, my wife's 2001 Honda Accord EX V6 battery died. I bought a Diehard and brought it home. This is an easy install without a car alarm.
When I install the positive terminal the factory alarm (the horn) goes off. How can I stop it?
I tried the remote key "Panic" button but that yielded no result.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks & regards,
Dave

On some alarms, the installer would place an alarm reset button under the dash, near the hood release. You would press this button, while turning the key.
Here are the options for disarming a factory alarm while it's going off:
1. Close all doors, trunk and hood. Alarm will stop after preset time.
2. Hit the unlock or lock button on the remote. (One of the 2 works... I just don't remember which.)
3. With all doors, trunk and hood close, insert the key in the driver's door and unlock/lock the doors manually.

OP stated that this is the factory alarm. Also, each aftermarket alarm will have different procedures. Pressing the button while turning the key only works on a few alarm systems.
I'm not sure why the factory alarm would go off when reinstalling the battery, unless the system was armed when the old battery was removed.

THANK YOU, PHILADD!!
"3. With all doors, trunk and hood close, insert the key in the driver's door and unlock/lock the doors manually."
THAT was the fix. Thanks for your knowledge.
While troubleshooting I pulled the horn relay so that bugger wouldn't be blaring at me and the neighbors for so long. My wife is happy. Now I can go back to driving MY '05 MINI Cooper S. :-)
