Default Ridgeline and MDX Slowing Production !?

Alliston-2 has switched away from the Ridgeline and MDX!

Looks like those two models are going to stay in production, but at drastically reduced numbers for the 2006 model year.

Alliston-2 is a configurable line, and it looks like they're moving it to mostly Odyssey production.

Think that has anything to do with Acura bringing out the RDX? (In regards to slowing production of the MDX).

Granted they aren't really supposed to be competing against each other, but the RDX can be viewed as a smaller SUV.

I haven't paid attention to how many MDXs we've been selling at work, though I know a saleperson commented last month that they've sold a ton more MDXs then normal. Maybe because it's winter? Seems like we still have a ton on the lot though.

Oh yah and speaking of the RDX, any idea if production will <crosses fingers> be in Japan...or if it will be unlucky and made in Ohio or Canada?

I know there's an RDX thread, I read through it, didn't find much useful info. The brochure we have at the dealership shows some pics, lists some specs, etc.

I see this as a smart move by Honda. By reacting to makret conditions, they're keeping inventory levels of their models right where they need to be and protecting the brand's image and value. This is part of the reason that Honda's flexible production lines are so great!

I don't find it surprising that they would taper off MDX production, after all it's been around since '01 and it's nearly time for a redesign. I do find it interesting that they're already ramping down Ridgeline production considering it's only been on the market for a short time.

They had something like a 90-day supply of Ridgelines on hand several times during the year.

It's possible that some potential purchasers just want a V8, and it's possible that some potential purchasers were forced into a more socially responsible purchase if they really did not need a big truck.

the ridgeline is hondas biggest and thirstiest (is that a word) car they have in their inventory. i think its more of a move to predict consumer demand since gas prices are expected to go back up to $3/gallon. im sure there will be more of a push for the civic, hydrids, and the new fit/jazz models coming out.

as for the RDX, its supposed to be made in maryville, ohio and i cant wait for it to come out. the power of a V8 yet the fuel economy of a 4 cyl.

also its good to have their inventory low in case they dont sell unlike u see what happened to GM and Ford, decreased deman, huge inventories, equals net losses. also the fact they hav over 5000 dealerships and toyota and honda barely have or just over 1800-2000.

ok, off my rant box.

Sucks it'll be from Ohio. Can't wait to see how many rattles this one has, amongst other problems.

Oh and not to argue with you...but the power of a V8? The "official" brochure we have at work states "2.3 liter, 240hp, DOHC i-VTEC Turbo". Now granted, this'll be pretty much the first Honda engine to actually have torque, but I wouldn't call it V8 power.

And don't get me wrong, I'm a dedicated Honda/Acura person for life. Owned only them the past seven years (check the sig) and I work at Acura.

Other then that I do agree that the RDX looks like it's going to be one hell of a vehicle. I can't wait til this summer when we actually get one.

Oh yah, think it'll be based off of a K series (2.0/2.4)? I can just see the ideas of swaps now...

Well that's enough of my 2 cents. I was thinking about scanning the brochure for those who haven't been able to see it yet. Def has the navi setup of an 05+ RL (**** in center, larger screen, etc). Steering wheel like a TSX/TL. Dash and climate control info def like a TL. Shifter...unique, though it does have F1 paddles like the 05+ RL. A-pillar to C-pillar like an MDX, front end MDX-ish, rear end...unique.

Ok that's enough for now

This decision was made around the time that the magazines started to rave about the Ridgeline and how great it was compared to the competition.

I wonder if Honda regrets this decision, and I wonder if they've changed their minds and switched the line around again.
