Default tranny probs; in neutral, but engages a gear somehow?

i'm putting a tranny in that i built. i can get into all six gears easily.
now i have just started the car with the wheels off, and went to release the clutch IN NEUTRAL and it is engaging a gear. dunno which one, but once the clutch is entirely released the speed is at 20 mph so i'd guess second gear, somehow.
wtf?

sounds like one of your bearing is giving you some problems. take it apart and check all your bearings by hand. if you notice ANY RESISTANCE AT ALL you should replace them. i will give you major respect though for attempting to rebuild your own transmission, thats not your average guys project you know!
