what a horrible looking tq curve, nothing like jumping 35hp when that 4 valve kicks in
serisouly though it has like a 1300 rpm powerband, i doubt the tranny keeps it in there

he needs to get a 'vvti' tuner that allows him to change the cam switching points, and he needs a fuel tuner to keep it from running stupid rich.
do they make cams for this car?
do they make cams for this car?
pretty sure its a 1.8 is the same motor as the celica gts
with the 6 speed i think it stays in the power band not really sure but my friends was auto so everytime it shifts it falls out of vvtli and you have to wait 1000rpm to get back in it.

Wow, and they say Honda's are peaky...
I understand now how everyone complains that even the 6 speed can't stay in the power band in between shifts. On top of it all it looks as if by the time the big cam engages the torque is already on its way down.
Still, pretty good peak hp. It just needs some kind of VVTL-i controller to keep it there for more than 1500rpm's worth of powerband.

You wanted a lower RPM before LIFT kicks in, check out this Matrix XRS in Canada:

They make next to nothing for this car. That's why nobody wants them. And that's why the Celica went the way of the dodo bird. If there was an aftermarket for these motors, then they might have some potential. But since there is no aftermarket, these motors remain fairly unwanted.

Do you think that with the Elise there might be more aftermarket from Lotus (although very expensive)
The race cars have to have non-stock cams...there has to be some hope

I wouldn't count on it. Remember that people who buy expensive cars like these tend to leave them stock. Also remember that Lotus really didn't get much more HP from the modifications they did on the motor. All in all, you are kind of screwed if you want to get more from this motor. And shame on Lotus for choosing this motor over the K20!
